The text gives room for there being a need of two or three witnesses. No need for a whole church. No, Christians used to go to the church to settle disputes. This was true in Judaism as well. If a Lutheran has a dispute with a Baptist, which church do they go to?
You don’t have to answer. I don’t want to distract from the topic of the thread.
But the reality is that’s the way it was in practice. There was only one church when Jesus spoke those words. The text gives room for there being a need of two or three witnesses. No need for a whole church.
Why not? This topic is going nowhere fast.I don’t want to distract from the topic of the thread.
Ok, I'll bite. Why?The topic title is unbiblical. That says it all.
Why is the topic unbiblical? - LOLOk, I'll bite. Why?
Then why, according to NT, did Christians confess their sins to one another? Why is the topic unbiblical? - LOL
Because there is no biblical support for the title assumption that forgiveness can only come when it is asked for.
Where is asking for forgiveness in either of those examples? Then why, according to NT, did Christians confess their sins to one another?
How could the Apostles forgive sins without knowing someone sinned?
1 John 1:9 KJV — If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. Why is the topic unbiblical? - LOL

Are you serious?Where is asking for forgiveness in either of those examples?

I don't think the OP title suggests that forgiveness can only come when it is asked for, but I agree that there is little biblical support to suggest the need to 'ask for forgiveness', rather we see repentance, personal confession, and forgiving one another. Why is the topic unbiblical? - LOL

God does forgive the ignorant, but we are talking about those Christians that are aware they have committed sin. That’s a big difference.Luke 23:34
(34) Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do. And they parted his raiment, and cast lots.
When the 12 rebuked a man because he wouldn't follow with them but did miracles and rebuked devils in Jesus name, Jesus said "if he is for us, he's not against us, don't rebuke him."But the reality is that’s the way it was in practice. There was only one church when Jesus spoke those words.
And of course Jesus was correct. It is true the Protestants are with Jesus. However, just as Jesus also said, “Those that do not gather with us scatter.” Well, it is a matter of fact, that Protestants have been scattering for over 500 years. When the 12 rebuked a man because he wouldn't follow with them but did miracles and rebuked devils in Jesus name, Jesus said "if he is for us, he's not against us, don't rebuke him."
It's not as you imagine.
Not sure the point, since the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. And of course Jesus was correct. It is true the Protestants are with Jesus. However, just as Jesus also said, “Those that do not gather with us scatter.” Well, it is a matter of fact, that Protestants have been scattering for over 500 years.
It's them other guys who are scattering. And of course Jesus was correct. It is true the Protestants are with Jesus. However, just as Jesus also said, “Those that do not gather with us scatter.” Well, it is a matter of fact, that Protestants have been scattering for over 500 years.
What do you mean? Every single Protestant church is the result of scattering. Even the churches that can trace their roots to Luther and Calvin have scattered from from them. It's them other guys who are scattering.
