• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I was just curious and wondering if anyone knows anything or has any information about boils. My boyfriend suffers from boils on his backside, which can be pretty serious at times. It seems that as soon as one clears up another one appears, usually in the same spot. He has suffered from these since he was a teenager. He seems to think there isn't any cure and says when he was younger he went to a doctor and they pretty much said the same thing.

I recently convinced him to go to a dermatologist who confirmed that he has boils or furuncles. They lanced it and tested the fluid, which was negative for staph infection. I just worry about the presence of these and wonder what really causes them.

I have done some research on them and so much literature says they are more common in individual with diabetes, HIV, etc.

He does have a history of being very promiscuous...several years before we met. I also convinced him to get tested for STDs, which were all negative as well.

Should I be concerned that he has some horrible infection that I could risk contracting someday if we get married and have sex?

I'd appreciate any information you might have, or if you know of a better section to post this in I'll do that to.

I used to be troubled with boils, which is basically and infected hair follicle.

Suggestions: Hot sits bath with epsom salt or just salt.
Always clean area with a clean wash cloth and towel. Bath should be hot as you can stand.

Alcohol skin area that is prone to boils. I use alcohol under my arms and I don't get any body oder or infected hair follicles any more. I don't even have to use deodorant anymore. Alcohol eliminates the need.

Wear cotton underwear. Avoid polyester, rayon and acrylic. Need the area to breathe.

Thanks for your reply. I was beginning to think there wasn't anybody out there who understands! I will encourage him to try the alcohol. I don't know if he's done that yet. Were you ever given any specific reason for why you might get boils? I mean was there any underlying condition, if I might ask. Thanks again for your suggestions!
