• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

I think it's probably a bit of both, the sad thing is that more people knowing and understanding about self harm isn't always a good thing. The way it is shown, at least over here makes it look like something that is easy to get help for so that maybe it seems like not such a big deal, I know that it's not the point but it almost makes it look like a good thing to start to the young children who hear about how other children use it to cope. No one ever talks about how it can affect relationships and how the scars can end up magorly affecting the things you do and the places you go or how that even if you can find help even after you stop you might still have problems with scars and stuff...sorry for being so negative but it scares me that ppl are getting into it thinking that it isnt a big a deal as it is...

Apparently more pressure is being put on society especially the younger generations and we are finding things harder to cope. We will leanr new ways one day. We will overcome this. It's become more widespreadly known over last few years, not sure if this is helping or not helping, i'd say in the long run it's probably going to help. People knowing about it helps, people can then help you, but it is a secret to a lot of people.
