• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

I sinned, due to lust; I already prayed and asked for God's Forgiveness. Today when I saw the time 3:16PM, I thought to myself, an intrusive thought - 'I better recite John 3:16 before the clock turns to 3:17pm in order to receive Forgiveness. Well, I didn't recite John 3:16 in time and then the clock turned to 3:17pm. Am I still forgiven? Did I have to recite a verse on time to be forgiven or is prayer and repentance enough?

Hey guitarintro, I have read your posts (this one and others) and you have classic ocd battles. I sing at church a lot and found myself trying to take a certain amount of breaths during a rest or having to breathe a certain way to relieve anxiety (didn't know it was ocd at the time). I am a sports fan and played several sports in high school and college and found myself saying if I didn't make a certain number of free throws in a row in basketball or kick a certain number of field goals in a row in football that it meant I wasn't saved. Even though I knew it had nothing to do with salvation the dreaded anxiety made it seem real. I mentioned it to my counselor one day and he said it was a normal part of life for someone with ocd and was a form of magical thinking that satan was trying to hit me with. Please know that God does not expect these things from you. Satan will use ocd against you and make you think all types of things. John 1:9 says all that is necessary to be forgiven is to confess (agree with God) and repent (turn from) and they are both done instantly. The moment you realize you have sinned and confess it to God then you have repented by turning to God for forgiveness. You can't really do one without doing both. Please know that you have been forgiven and have a Merry Christmas!!!!

Well put kicker. I don't have ocd but my wife does. She has some of the same thoughts sometimes. God Bless all of you who have to struggle with OCD. I can't imagine pain or struggles you all have to go through with intrusive thoughts. If I could,I would take everbodies OCD and carry in bottle and toss it away.
