  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I have quite good ideas as to what I want in a guy:

1. Christian
2. Short hair (just a personal thing but really annoys me)
3. Someone I couldn't walk over so quite confident and older than me
(as well as all the usual; funny, kind, smart)

However I've been getting a tiny crush on this guy in my cell group. He has long hair, younger than me by a year and he's quite quiet. Should I quash this crush or wait and see?

Wow, I'm picky in a ton of things, but hair length wouldn't deter me if I liked him :)

I've dated guys with long, short, buzzed, bald, balding, and a mix of all the above lol.

I wouldn't let "hair style" be a determining factor in dating a guy I liked.

On the age, again, maturity has nothing to do with age, though typically it may...also 19-20 is pretty much the same age.

Oh, there are drawbacks w/the guy being older to, I have typically dated older guys but there are some issues I have w/them in general.

Well, okay, here's the thing...

I concur with those who say you might be being a little too picky, especially about the haircut. BUT... what you have to do is ask yourself honestly, how big a deal are those other things to me?

Because if you think you could like this guy in spite of them, by all means, give him a chance. But if your heart's set on those other things, and you're only telling yourself to consider another type because that's what you think you "should" do... then you could end up leading the guy on, and that would be worse than not trying at all.

So... the question, as always, is: What do you really want from your guy, and can this fellow realistically offer it?

Good luck and God bless, whatever you do. :)

Just like always, nobody has given the best advice you can get.

Pray about it and ask God about it. He alone knows the perfect answer to even the smallest of problem.
Bringing the small things to God is one way of how you truly get to know Him as more than just a God, but as a friend.
No man can help you make the right choice, give you the right advice, or tell you if this guy is worth it or just a waste of time. God knows though, and He knows fully and best.

What is our advice compared to His? What do we know compared to Him? Who wrote your life out before you were even born, us, yourself, or God? Whose wisdom is higher than HIS?

People need to stop giving their own advice or taking their own advice. God is here for a reason, and the small things of life is one of those reasons to seek Him more.
Get an answer from HIM. And only HIM. (If God uses a vessel to tell you, then that's fine, but only if the vessel knows the message is from God, or God tells you the message is from Him)

I would say pray about it and give him a chance. My courting with a guy that she thought she would never date. Her type is guys with a little bit of chub, and short curly hair. Well, that didn't happen; her boyfriend is skinny and has shoulder length straight hair. When she met her boyfriend, she only liked him as a friend. But, when she got to know him more, she started liking him, and then later on knew he was "the one." So, I don't think that hairstyle or age should be a factor. :)
