• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

NOT masturbating is stopping me from getting work done

Hi. I've been masturbating since I was 13. I've been trying to stop (Really stop) masturbating for about 2 years now. My longest streak of successes has been 65 days. My struggle isn't with porn. I don't care much for it. The problem I've had is not being able to get work done when I stop masturbating. I've been stopped for 21 days now and it's not going great.

I'm single and not in any relationship. I'm not actually even looking for a relationship at the moment as career currently takes precedence. I'm a total virgin and not looking to change that until I get the rest of my life sorted out.

I've made this promise to myself and God that I would stop masturbating and I'm feeling like I can't keep my promise.

I work alone at home all day. There's nothing I can change about that. I can't get work done because I can't stop thinking about masturbating. I know some people find that porn/masturbation interferes with their lives and affects their ability to do work, but I'm having the opposite problem. I'm really struggling to get work done because I stopped masturbating. I've hardly gotten any work done the past 3 weeks and it's affecting my work output. For someone who is self-employed, it's not a great situation to be in.

There are no sex toys or magazines or anything like that in my house. My computer is unable to access things that are dirty or triggering. My office has a wide open, street-facing window and my door doesn't close so when people are home they can see in.

Please help.

Hi JamieF1990,

Not sure if you're monitoring this thread anymore, but there is another thread, "Distraction Ideas for Masturbation/Sexual Fantasy." (Although I'm not sure how relevant it is to your point...)

That being said, I can't think of any substitute for earnest, perseverant, humble prayer. And I'm not saying it will "work" immediately. Sometimes we are healed immediately, but I think more often, it's gradual. Sometimes we don't see the fruits of long-term prayer for awhile. But we can't give up because God doesn't give up on us. As cliche as it sounds, I sincerely believe He is the answer. It just takes faith and perseverance.

Anyways, not sure if you or anyone will read this, but I wanted to make sure you knew you weren't alone!
