Thread: Ancient’s Wake
Name: Nora Steele
Gender: Female
Race: Human
Age: 28
Height: 5’7”
Weight: 130 pounds
Profession: Physician at Fort Mossol
Appearance: Nora is not your average Semorian woman. She never wears a dress, but rather prefers to wear modest breeches tucked into leather-bound boots, and a blouse underneath a vest, keeping her blouse tight to her body to minimize the soiling of her clothes from her job. She has long fingers and quick hands, as her profession requires them at times. She is rarely seen without her medical bag, though it’s not one with a handle...it has a shoulder strap and can be worn over her shoulders so her hands can be free. Her naturally dark blonde hair is wavy and streaked with lighter blonde on top. She keeps her hair short, just a little past her shoulders, and usually ties the soft waves back either in a slightly messy bun or in a ponytail. She rarely wears it loose as it gets in her way when she works. Her eyes are gray like the morning sea and are deepset beneath thin eyebrows, her lips full and her cheekbones high. Nora isn’t particularly pretty, but she does have a kind smile and the fairly endearing habit of biting her lower lip when she’s thinking. She has a scar underneath her left eye -- a white streak that goes from the outer edge near her cheekbone and follows the curve in towards her nose, and some scattered scars on her back...none of which she speaks of.
Personality: Nora has a very take-charge, confident personality, as befits a frontlines physician. She has a good, level head on her shoulders and is calm during a crisis. She’s respectful and honest, and doesn’t have any tolerance for people who frequently lie or cheat. She’s fair and tries her best to help others. She has a good sense of humor and enjoys being sarcastic, though she doesn’t care for tricks or pranks at all. She prefers a quiet evening in her quarters with a glass of brandy, poring over her notes on patients from that day or reading a book instead of gambling and drinking and smoking like she knows the men do around the fort. It can take time to earn her trust, but once someone has it...they have it and her loyalty for good. She can also be clumsy at times, though never with her hands. Mostly she simply doesn't have a good awareness of her surroundings, concentrating more on what's in front of her hands than under her feet or all around her.
Brief History: Nora knew from the time she was very young that she wanted to be a physician. She was fascinated with how the human body worked. Her parents owned a small bakery in the capitol of Mych before it was destroyed. It was a popular bakery and they did quite well; well enough to send their three children to school. Nora, being the oldest of the three, finished first and immediately sought an apprenticeship with a few of the local physicians. None of them would take a woman, however. That was, until she turned seventeen and an officer in the armed forces who frequented the bakery mentioned that their military physician needed help in the fort nearby. Nora took the job immediately, and though the physician was skeptical at first, soon Nora had impressed him enough to take her on as an apprentice.
Eight years later, the physician announced she had learned enough to start her own practice. And that’s what she did, staying with her parents in Mych for a year with a private practice before deciding to go out on her own and find work, to be independent. There weren’t many people who would hire a femal physician, however, and Nora found herselfstruggling for work once she got out on her own. Finally, the Major in charge of Fort Mossol hired her after hearing she’d practiced in a military environment before. Around this time was when the Kry began to make their appearance once again. Though mostly the Kry left Fort Mossel alone, during the past two years, Nora has still seen many people poisoned, watched as the Semorian soldiers around the fort fought the occasional Kry that came towards the fort...all in vain. About a year prior to the present day, Nora’s youngest brother was attacked by a Kry and poisoned. She wasn’t even able to say goodbye. By the time she had rushed home, he was dead and buried from the fever, her parents telling her it was better that way, instead of their son living life as Vysage, a mentally disturbed outcast. Distraught, she began to wonder whether or not there was something she could do to help, to find out just why the Kry were unable to be killed except for by Vysage; and to see if there might be some way to cure those poisoned. And from there, after Nora resumed her post at Fort Mossol, she started to concentrate some of her work on alchemy, currently attempting to answer those questions today.
