I voted "no" because the appearance of piety goes a long way in swaying the public. The people may or may not believe that their president is Christian, but they at least expect him/her to go through the motions. Machiavelli knew that, but I can't find the exact passage in The Prince right now.

If Hillary Clinton runs, there's no way in Hades will I vote for her.  If another woman ran, who was highly qualified and I agreed with her ideals and agenda, I'd vote for her.  I wouldn't vote for an atheist.

This is the sort of irrationality she projects.  I believe she is a good woman, and I recognize aspects of the United Methodist Sunday Schools that she and I attended in things she says and does.

I would prefer another candidate with the same agenda and platform.  John Kerry would be good.  I like Howard Dean, too, but no way any guy who's governor of a state with 3 electoral votes is going on the ticket.  He's really running for Secretary of Health and Human Services.

Christian...
true Christian...
how can we tell who is true, and who is not?
Everyone will say he or she is true. But it is not right for us to doubt others of their sincerity in Christ.
Only Christ alone will know who are his true sheeps and who are not.

Let me illustrate you with a story.

There is this church that are full of Christians all out for God. One day, two men with machine guns came in and threatened to kill everyone who is a Christian. Everyone left the church in a hurry, except for five Christians.
The two men sat down on the bench and asked the pastor to proceed with his sermons.

Hearing this story on the first hand, I immediately conclude that only the five that stayed in the church were the true Christians. The rest were hypocrites.

But I thought about it more and more. I thought about myself, too. What if in those 500++ that ran off, a few were also true Christians, but their faith had not matured to the state of being willing to die for their faiths?
What if they were new believers, begining on their journeys with God and is at the moment afraid to die for their belief. Will that made them any more less true a Christian than those who stayed on?

My conclusion is: No.
Not all Christians who ran off are hypocrites. Some are perhaps, still spiritually a baby, waiting to grow. Others, are simply giving in to their fears over their beliefs. That is, they are weak Christians, who should not be condemned by those strong enough to die for their faiths, but who should be encouraged to grow in their faiths.
Because we will never know what their true hearts think. God alone knows.

Because I am also an immature Christian, who most proably, if confronted with the scenario earlier will run for my life, in my early days as a Christian. But that does not win that I am not a true Christian.

It only means this: that I am still pretty much under my sins, and is under the process of being clensed by God. I am as much a true Christian then, as I am today.
And yet, even today, I am still spiritually immature, and is thus, still growing as a Christian.

So what is not a true Christian?
Well, God is proably the only one who will truly know.
