Hi all,
I'm seeing a wonderful woman who has a four-year old son; we've been together about 2 months. I find myself in a position where I expect myself to be a positive male figure in her son's life (as her ex isn't, really), and it's kind of scary because I've never had to do anything like this. (I don't have any children of my own, so in a way this is my "first".) I'm always very careful not to step on my gf's toes when it comes to raising her son; I read with him more, not let him watch cartoons, etc. if I'm watching him for the evening or afternoon but that's about it-- I'll only offer advice if she asks for it. This seems to work out well, since I'm able to keep him occupied with more constructive activities.
Are there any other non-parents in here? I'd be curious to know what your experiences have been like, if you don't mind sharing them...
