The common belief is that God reprobates those who reject Christ. The Scripture says that all those who come to Him He will in no wise cast out. Therefore, there is no way according to Scripture that anyone who turns to and accepts Christ will be rejected by God. The evidence of election is that the person believes and accepts the gospel of Christ and receives Him as Saviour and Lord. There are those who are concerned about election before receiving Christ, and wonder if Christ will receive them. But this is putting the cart before the horse. It is better to believe the promise, "Come unto Me all who labour and are heavy laden [with their sin] and I will give you rest, because My yoke is easy and My burden is light", and, "Come let us reason together; though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow." Upon believing these promises in God's Word, the person comes to Christ, puts his whole faith in His finished work on Calvary, and receives Him as Saviour and Lord. Then he gains the assurance that he is elected when the Spirit witnesses with his spirit that he is a child of God. That will definitely happen because the Scripture again say, "Those who receive Christ, God gives them the right to become the children of God." The assurance of election is based on the promises of God to mankind. The general promise is: "God so loved the world that He gave His only Son, so that whosoever believes in Him shall not perish but will have everlasting life." Notice that the Scripture says "whosoever", and not "the elect", because the invitation is extended to all people without restriction. It all depends on how people respond with their RSVP, which determines whether they are elected or not.
