Non-Denom are for those stepping away from religion?

What do you think "religious" means?

I think what he's saying -- and this is just be taking a crack at it -- is that organized religion, in it's worst form, is one small group of people wielding a weapon of spiritual faith to control a larger group of people through fear and intimidation. The Pharisees were great examples of this, which is why Jesus rebuked them severely and often. Taken to absolute extremes it can devolve into religious cults.

Christ's message for redemption and salvation was incredibly simple. As people we tend to add needless complications to it.

I understand what he was saying, but my point is simply that's not what "religious" means.

I do not believe that the people who are leaving denominations (like me) are moving away from religion. I feel that they are moving away from churches which do not teach the Bible to churches which do teach the Bible.

But now, as this area grows, I'm starting to see non-denom churches pop up and modern man, who has grown weary of religious-based institutions are being attracted to these kinds of churches.

So..that said, you'll see a lot from various former religions joining these churches.

Would you say this non-denom movement of joining these kinds of churches kind of a "Goldilocks" zone of sorts that most tend to find satisfactory, instead of the drama dealt with in religious-based churches? Are non-denoms are pretty much a go-to venue for those tired of their own religion and thus non-denoms are a sanctuary for the melting pot of religions?
Non-denominational simply means that it's not affiliated with a denomination or hierarchy. With hierarchies come politics that are restrictive to God's work. With denominations come extra customs that become rules and teachings which can shackle the church.

I have lived in the deep south for the majority of my life, but I had nothern parents that followed northern religions.

Hello ThisISMe123,

I can only speak for myself and perhaps a few of the people attending the non-denominational church I am a part of.
The reason I joined a non-denominational church was simply because the church was so grounded in scripture. The church leadership is organized more or less like the early church described in the book of Acts.
Our faith, beliefs and practices are based purely on scripture. There is an emphasis on grower closer to God, having a personal relationship with Christ and being led by the spirit which we think, based on scripture ,will lead to a Christ follower leading a much more holy life than simply following a set of rules.
The fact that we are not bound by a ton of "baggage", such as old traditions and doctrines which really have no basis in scripture is very appealing to me. However, if we wanted to follow some of the traditions of the Catholic or Orthodox faiths, we would no be judged for doing so.
