Non-conformist Music

I read an article in our city magazine today about a woman who banned what she called "non-conformist" music from her home and was encouraging others to do the same. She felt that it led to "the deliquency of an already troubled youth" and that most anti-social acts could be traced to that kind of music.

She has also asked parents to forbid the watching of music videos that also advocated the non-conformist atitude

What do you think of this?

What do you want to bet that the woman from that article listens to The Beatles or some such? A good portion of their music wasn't very 'conformist'.

Put quite simply - non-conformist or anti-social music does not make anti-social kids. Already anti-social kids just happen to like that kind of music, but not everybody (most, I'd say) ends up being anti-social because of it.

This lady has some problems I think. Why would she want her kids to be conformist robots?? There's already way too many people out there doing all kinds of stupid things just to conform. Conformity is actually a dangerous thing.

If someone commits an "antisocial act" (whatever that is), who is hurt by it?

I hope very much that non-conformist music helps to make non-conformist people. We need more of them.

Because when you conform, you won't be associated with those freaks that aren't like us, and therefore you'll be a much better and moral person.

I am what you would term a non conformist. I dress the way I do because I like it, and what I like just happens to fall outside the conformity zone. Im not doing it to make a statement or be anti-social.
