  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Ok in my last post on wicca, most christians couldnt seem to understand anything that the nonchristians had to say. So here, this thread is giving them a shot. Here, please, please if your not a christian--- write a response explaining what you believe in. Maybe we can come to a better understanding of were the opposing sides are. :)

Well, just to clarify I think what some Christians mean by "Non-Believers" is not that pagans don't believe in God, it's that they don't believe that God/Jesus is Lord over all and there are no other Gods but Satan and the other demons trying to decieve. So maybe what that line meant was that Pagans are "Non-believers" of that "One way only" doctrine. Not that they don't believe in God at all.

I hope I made sense. It's early... for me. ;)

That's what I know, but, I was trying to sort of elaborate maybe on my theory on why some Christians use "Non believers" when referring to Pagans and other non-Christian beliefs. some of it is ignorance, however, I've noticed that a good deal is just clever-sounding wordplay.

Believing in the Christian God is all well and good for Pagans, however according to mainstream Christian doctrine, you can't lump in God/Jesus with other gods. It's either the Christian God, or nobody.

Forgive me for posting even though you clearly asked non-Christians to wait. But something must be said…I and other Pagans are not non-believers, we believe differently. There is a difference
I think that when the OP said non-believers, she was referring to belief in Christianity, not God. Everybody is a believer in something, really.

Ah but most Pagans do believe in the Christian God. We believe in all Gods and Goddesses, but we worship only a very small number.

Huh. Not the Pagans I know. They reject the Christian God completely.

Stop bickering.

There is a difference between Non-believers and Non-Christians.

I am pagan, and I do not reject the Christian God...I just don't think he's all that nice of a God.

God's nature was revealed in Jesus Christ. Do you think Jesus Christ was nice?

From what I've read, I'd have to say yes. Jesus was a pretty nice guy. The book of Matthew would have to be my personal favorite book of the Bible.

That's pretty much how I objectively view God and the importance of the Jesus as God incarnate is to our understanding of God, as christians. There is still going to be some subjectivity involved in interpreting Christ's life and teachings, but in essence Jesus is our perfect example of God's nature, because of the fact that he was visible and comprehendable from a human standpoint.

This is in contrast to the Old Testament view of God, which was people trying to relate to an unseen God, and therefore developing a quite less objective view of what God is really like. I have no disagreement with anyone over the difficulties of understanding God from the perspective of the Isrealites, but God seemed to have some frustration in that matter himself, from what I read in the Old Testament. He's often sending prophets out to tell them they've got it all wrong. :)

From a christian standpoint however, God coming down and revealing himself as a man, is the big revelation about God and why it's such an influential one, I would think. It certainly influenced me anyway.

Just to get it cleared up before you go off on a dog trail of irrelevence, I was stating Non Believers as a sum for those who do not believe in the christian faith, I was not referring to god. Just wanted to make that clear.....

Unless you're me.... who only tends to hold tentative "beliefs" in things that can only be described mainly in the field of philosophy and are not testable.
