For those who are interested, this is Nobel Prize season. The science prizes will be announced next week. Thompson Reuters, the technical information service, is predicting this years likely prizewinners in Chemistry, Physics, Medicine/Physiology, and Economics. I think the coolest work was done by Andre Geim of the University of Manchester. He discovered and analyzed graphene. A sheet of carbon atoms arranged in benzene rings one atom thick. Among other cool properties, it's thought to be the strongest substance ever discovered.
The TR group apparently has a pretty good record for predicting winners. We'll see.
