  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

OK, so Genesis 8:13-14 are correct. The flood was 375 days.

And, so now you'll acknowledge that the following verses are incorrect?

Gen 7:4
Gen 7:11-12
Gen 7:17
Gen 7:24
Gen 8:3-5
Gen 8:6-10

Just trying to figure out which version you are going to run with.

I actually don't see the confusion here. It seems almost like a journal with times and events included. I just re-read it and I don't see why these verses are conflicting. After a little more than a year, Noah was told he could come out. Before this he opened the covering and took a peak to see that the ground was dry. He waited another month and saw it was "completely dry". Then God told him to come on out.

to all athiests,
We should all keep in mind that if all christianity is of no truth, than the religion is of no importance, but on the chance that it is true, it is of the utmost importance.

This is where so many Christians are wrong, to think that if Christianity is false then it has no value. Religion and myth is all about the transformation of the reader through their theological spiritual truths. It was truth, it's just that those who follow it fundamentalistly are interpretating it wrong and selling it short and instead give it a historical truth that raises tens of thousands of questions that can't be reconciled. And thus forums like this. The truth is there, it's just not being examined in the right manner, nor does the church wish to persue the right manner. They would prefer to die on the vine through tunnel visioned absoluteness in misinterpretation of cutural traditions.

Actually He'd rather you try not to. Common thought is bad because you'll never see God unless you think on another plane. On a spiritual plane.

then why on earth did he give us brains? He gave us legs so we could walk, mouths so we could eat, eyes so we could see... and brains so we could put them in a jar and let them rot?

I must hang my head in shame and sorrow and must proclaim that the know-nothing demonstations of profound ignorance demonstrated here is in no way a good representation of a thinking theists point of view regarding science.

Anyone can plainly see that science is a tool to allow us to observe and understand the material world. It is sad that many Christians want to see their "miracles" called science and taught in schools so as to further condemn American children to ignorance and medievalism.

Any claims regarding "Gods" actions in the material world must have actual tangible evidence prior to being called a theory. This theory then has to be theorectically falsifiable. On both counts YEC fails completely as does all Flood Geology claims. Therefore neither of these can be considered science.

On behalf of thinking theists everywhere, both Christian and non-Christian alike, please accept my deepest apologies for all the abject ignorance demonstrated here.

Is there any wonder that American students rank so low on the list in regards to scientific knowledge when children are brainwashed daily in homes and churches by equally ignorant preachers, parents and reverends?

if it wasn't so sad it would be amusing. :(

Namaste,

Chris

Hey, no problem. Speaking on behalf of the Atheists, agnostics, scoffers, skeptics, heretics, backsliders, and all others who make the world interesting , We know that embarrassingly ignorant theists are in a minority. They in no way represent the general theist population, they're just the ones who make the most noise.

I used to believe that they wante dto turn our democracy into a theocracy, but now I believe they're aiming for what I call an "Audiocracy": rule by the loudest. :)

What? Brains are used to think and function. I'm saying we should evaluate things for our own instead of just assuming someone else is completely correct. Find out for yourself if that person is completely correct.

(I assume you are a YEC. If not these comments apply to any YEC on the board.)

Why don't you try to find out for yourself if there is anything at all that is correct about Young Earth Creationism.

Maybe you could use your brain to find out for yourself if there a correct worldwide flood based explanation of the fossil record

http://www.christianforums.com/t42599&page=1

or perhaps a "correct" explaination how all these catastrophies happened in merely 6,000 or so years with no one noticing

http://christianforums.com/t50702

Or how about a "correct" worldwide flood based explanation for biogeography

http://christianforums.com/t40474

or maybe a correct worlwide flood based explanation of many geological features that would seem to have no "correct" explanation based on a worldwide flood.

http://christianforums.com/t41209

how about a "correct" explanation for how enormous amounts of water evaporated during a worldwide flood to produce salt layers all over the world?

http://www.christianforums.com/t50900&page=1

I hope your explanations can be more correct than the totally absurd nonsense that YECs "top geologists" came up with to try to explain the animals tracks in the Coconino Sandstones.

Are you self appointed, or did everyone take a vote and elect you to be their spokes person?

Appointed by default. Nobody else was raising their hand and saying "Me! Me! Pick me!"

Are you familiar with the Athenian Democracy? Ancient Athens had what was probably as close to a true democratic government (rule by the people) more so than any other nation in history.

Every free male citizen over 19 years of age was considered a government leader in Athens. Whenever important decisions had to be made, a bell was rung at the capital building, calling the citizens. Whoever showed up was considered the "government" that day, and voted on issues that affected the entire city-state.

Today was my day. Perhaps tomorrow will be Arikay's day. Or Frumious Bandersnatch's. Or Jet Black's...

Did they ever get anything accomplished?

We have a pilgram church here that is sort of run like that. Sometimes everyone has a different opinion of how something should be done and so it just never gets done, because no two people can agree.

One example is the floor in the social hall is in bad shape. Some people think they should sand it out and refinish it. Others think they should tear the building down and put up a new building. Then you have all sorts of opinions inbetween. The cost estimates run anywere from $3000 to $3,000,000. They have actually raised something like $50,000 to do something with it.

Considering that Athens circa 5th century BC was one of the most advanced and enlightened civilizations of its time, I'd say it worked pretty well, all things considered.

Have you really just answered to *Fruminous'* post? It doesn't seem connected...

YECs have no answer to the questions in my post. I assumed that Micahli was a YEC based on post content and lots of experience reading YEC posts. If I am wrong maybe some other YEC might try to answer but I don't expect to see direct answers to the refutation of the global flood on the threads linked to in my post because there are none.
