  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

to all athiests,
We should all keep in mind that if all christianity is of no truth, than the religion is of no importance, but on the chance that it is true, it is of the utmost importance. Once you have found Jesus and accepted him, you will see this. If this is the case that christianity is false, which i know is not the case. but i am humoring you, i know that what you do on earth will not matter whatsoever, because if you die you have absolutely nothing afterward, everything ceases. so why be so selfish in life it really gets you nothing, to me, even before i became a christian, i got more out of giving than recieving. I will pray for you all.
God bless

Namaste serendipity,

inexplicably you equate religion to only Christianity, which is a complete misunderstanding of the term. Religion can certainly be important regardless of the position that one takes on Christianity itself.

so you're saying that if Christianity is false is won't matter what we do on earth... by the same token, if Christianity is true, it will also not matter what our "works" are on earth.

however, i will not agree that upon death "everything ceases"... i will agree that our knowledge of death and the dying process is rather limited unless you are able to understand some of the more subtle teachings of Buddhism.

in any event, even should one not be able to penetrate the teachings.. we can easily observe that our atomic structure will never "end" until the universe does... and even that is subject to debate.

Hey Nathan, as a new found follower of Last Tuesdayism, I haven't gotten the newsletter yet... so what is our church's offical stance on aliens? Do they exist or.... what?

Of course, and they're on their way. But because the Universe was created last Tuesday, God had to create the aliens "in transit" so we'd see them sooner.

I pray that they bring intelligent life.

The last one.

First the mountain top he was on became dry. Then the whole earth became dry.

OK, so Genesis 8:13-14 are correct. The flood was 375 days.

And, so now you'll acknowledge that the following verses are incorrect?

Gen 7:4
Gen 7:11-12
Gen 7:17
Gen 7:24
Gen 8:3-5
Gen 8:6-10

Just trying to figure out which version you are going to run with.

1.) Are you really suggesting that I know nothing about geology?

YES

2.)Substantiate your claim or retract your insult.

No

3.)In general, no it's not scientific because creationists are too keen on preserving their preconceived conclusion about the world as derived from their biased interpretation of a religious text.[/QUOTE]

It all depends whether or not you use the evolution model or the creation model. I hate to burst your conceited bubble, but evolution, nor creation has been proven.
Blaise Pascal has already won this topic!!
It all boils down to faith.
You believe in a stupid unintelligent nothing and i believe in God-the intelligent infinite maker of all.

We both still must have faith in our beliefs ;)

It is not surprising that you refuse to substantiate your claims since you obviously can't and need to blow off someone who clearly knows far more geology than you do since geology so obviously falsifies the myth of a recent worldwide flood.

Faith has nothing to do with all the falsifications of the young earth and worldwide flood that come from geology, paleontology, biogeography, astronomy, archeology and other branches of science.

You are forgetting that the scientists who originally falsified the worldwide flood had faith in it until their own data showed them they were wrong. Of course YECs try very hard to cover this up.

Further there are people of every religious belief who accept the overwhelming evidence for an old earth and against the worldwide flood. For example there is the Affiliation of Christian Geologists.

BTW here is my favorite quote from Blaise Pascal

Men never do evil so completely and cheerfully as when they do it from religious conviction.
Blaise Pascal

I could add that men (and women) never commit logical errors and ignore masses of data so completely and cheerfully as when they do it from religious conviction in a young earth and global flood. There are any number of posts on this board demonstrating this clearly. Here are links to a few of them.

You conveniently omitted my first question to you, which I will reiterate: "What is your background in the geological sciences then?"

1.) Are you really suggesting that I know nothing about geology?

YES

What basis do you have for your conclusion that I know nothing about geology despite having a degree in the geological sciences?

2.)Substantiate your claim or retract your insult.

No

Why not? Because you can't? You claimed that you are used to academic debates rather than debates where people don't lie while insinuating that I am a liar. Given that you've been unable to refute anything in this thread, substantiate your position, or point out one lie I have made, clearly there's nothing "academic" about this debate. You've brought nothing to the discussion.

It all depends whether or not you use the evolution model or the creation model.

Irrelevant. Evolution has nothing to do with the topic of a global flood unless you want to discuss the implications of our paleontological observations on your falsified theory. Falsifications of a global flood and evolution are mutually exclusive. No "evolution model" must be used.

I hate to burst your conceited bubble, but evolution, nor creation has been proven.

Nothing in science is "proven." No, not even an ellipsoidal earth that orbits the sun. CreationISM (as lucaspa likes to emphasize) has been proven false. Creation cannot be proven one way or another. After all, evolution could very well be a form of creation.

You believe in a stupid unintelligent nothing and i believe in God-the intelligent infinite maker of all.

So you insult rather than adding to the discussion. I expect as much from creationists based upon my experiences here. The vast majority of creationists, especially the young earth/global flood variety, are ignorant of science and cannot resort to backing up claims with facts. Quite frankly, you appear to know little regarding what I "believe."

We both still must have faith in our beliefs ;)

Faith is irrelevant when I have facts that dictate what conclusions should be accepted or rejected. A good place to start with respect to geology is here:

http://christianforums.com/t41209

So far no creationists have been willing and/or able to discuss any of the points raised there. You can either start to back up your claims, or there's no use posting at all.
