Dear Daily Message Readers,
READ: Psalm 125
Psalm 121:8 (NLT) "The LORD will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore."
The other day I talked with a younger friend of mine who expressed his worries about the future. He is certain our country will be taken over by evil forces (Arnold Schwarzenegger-type governors, for instance), and that the church will be so overrun with worldliness that he won't be able to continue His walk with Christ. And even though he believes Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior, he is afraid that by some quirk or mistake he will end up in hell.
The vast majority of people today have experienced these concerns. From their financial situation to the upbringing of their children, the anxiety never seems to end. Thankfully, the Word of God in Psalm 125 reminds us that we do not need to fear the future. Here the psalmist praises God because He has promised to protect and preserve His people. As Mt. Zion will not be moved, so the Lord surrounds His people forever (125:1-2).
God promises to provide us with His everlasting grace. Not only are we safe for all eternity because He said so, but Jesus said that not one of His own will be snatched from His Father's hand (John 10:28). And Paul, writing in the epistle of Romans, reminds us that nothing can separate us from the love of God (Romans 8:38-39).
Though we have the promise of eternal life forever, this does not mean we are free to go out and sin as much as we want. In fact, in his same letter to the Romans, Paul wrote vigorously about the inconsistency of practicing a sinful lifestyle when we have died to sin (Romans 6:1-4).
If you know the Lord Jesus, you can have every assurance that your future is as secure as the unchanging character of God. Faith Lesson: We need not fear the future because we have the living God by our side.
In Christ,
Darin Smith
