  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Just wanted to briefly share something I have been thinking about recently. I've realized that Job (from the old testament) was a great man of faith. I am completely in awe by Job's neverending conviction and love for God. Even when he lost his children, his wealth...and his wife abandoned him, Job still believed in God NO MATTER WHAT.

The implication of that just blows me away. :bow: With all the struggles and pain that we go through, surely it can't even begin to compare with the grief and devastation that Job experienced. How humbling is that for me to come to terms with? We all struggle and life is not easy sometimes. And frankly, life can be really excruciating and emotionally painful. But then I think about Job's example and how God blessed him ten-fold back for being faithful.

I am beginning to slowly see that maybe suffering also has a purpose. Suffering can really test our faith and it is probably the ultimate test. So I am convicted that NO MATTER WHAT, we need to always take our pain to God, love God as much as Job had, and keep trusting Him. I am humbled with Job's example of being a great man of faith. If he could survive his horrible trials and end up being blessed, we can too. Job is an true inspiration for me and I rejoice in learning what it really means to have faith. And having faith means just that...having faith NO MATTER WHAT.

May all of us continue striving to grow stronger in our faiths and have the kind of faith that Job had. God bless all. :angel:

Very true words sis. I heard a new young preacher say once that trials do all you say,PLUS "they weed out the chaff"! Boy that is true when the going gets rough,many Christians give up,and turn bitter,instead of clinging tighter to God.

Greetings all ,

Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;
Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron
. <-----> 1st Timothy 4:1+2

And then shall many be offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another.
And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many.
And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold.
But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.
<-----> Mathew 24:10-13

Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;
And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;
Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.
And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:
Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints
. <-----> Ephesians 6:13-18

Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy;
That they do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to distribute, willing to communicate;
Laying up in store for themselves a good foundation against the time to come, that they may lay hold on eternal life.
<-----> 1st Timothy 6:17-19

And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works:
Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.
<-----> Hebrews 10:24+25

Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord,
According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:
Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.
And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge;
And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness;
And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity.
For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
But he that lacketh these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and hath forgotten that he was purged from his old sins.
Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall:
For so an entrance shall be ministered unto you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
<-----> 2nd Peter 1:2-11

He that loveth his brother abideth in the light, and there is none occasion of stumbling in him. <-----> 1st John 2:10

Seek ye the LORD, all ye meek of the earth, which have wrought his judgment; seek righteousness, seek meekness: it may be ye shall be hid in the day of the LORD'S anger. <-----> Zephaniah 2:3

He that dasheth in pieces is come up before thy face: keep the munition, watch the way, make thy loins strong, fortify thy power mightily. <-----> Nahum 2:1

Heaven and earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass away.
And take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting, and drunkenness, and cares of this life, and so that day come upon you unawares.
For as a snare shall it come on all them that dwell on the face of the whole earth.
Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man.
<-----> ( Words of Jesus ) Luke 21:33-36

Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will remove thy candlestick out of his place, except thou repent. <-----> Revelation 2:5

Fear none of those things which thou shalt suffer: behold, the devil shall cast some of you into prison, that ye may be tried; and ye shall have tribulation ten days: be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life. <-----> Revelation 2:10

Be watchful, and strengthen the things which remain, that are ready to die: for I have not found thy works perfect before God.
Remember therefore how thou hast received and heard, and hold fast, and repent. If therefore thou shalt not watch, I will come on thee as a thief, and thou shalt not know what hour I will come upon thee.
<-----> Revelation 3:2+3

Because thou hast kept the word of my patience, I also will keep thee from the hour of temptation, which shall come upon all the world, to try them that dwell upon the earth. <-----> Revelation 3:10

I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see.
As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.
<-----> Revelation 3:18+19

Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall.
There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.
Wherefore, my dearly beloved, flee from idolatry.
I speak as to wise men; judge ye what I say.
<-----> 1st Corinthians 10:12-15

...Beloved, remember ye the words which were spoken before of the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ;
How that they told you there should be mockers in the last time, who should walk after their own ungodly lusts.
These be they who separate themselves, sensual, having not the Spirit.
But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost,
Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life.
And of some have compassion, making a difference:
And others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire; hating even the garment spotted by the flesh.
Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy,
To the only wise God our Saviour, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and ever. Amen.
<-----> Jude 1:17-25

May The Lord Be Magnified !

I couldnt agree with you more. I've had a fair share of heartbreak and strife in my life (as is true of everyone) and the one thing I have learned is to ALWAYS take it to God. Everything I have learned about God's character, my friends, my faith and myself, I have learned in the midst of my suffering.

Ecclesiastes 3:1
"To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven"

Jeremiah 29:11 "For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."

Throughout my life I have always kept these verses in my mind to remind me that God uses our trials to make us stronger. He has a plan and a reason for everything that happens to us and the best way to bring about the blessings He has for us is to turn to him with everything.

Well said! And You are so right...:thumbsup:
Job is a good example for the rest of us!

But I have a problem with Jobs book... not Job, but, unfortunately, God...
I get the (wrong, I know, but still...) impression that Gods only argument is
"I am bigger and stronger then you are"... and that God would think that is does not matter to a mother or father if the children dies, as long as He gives them new children...:o ... so I avoid Job!

I think that its the opposite, God knows how much it matters when a parent loses a child, he gave up his one and only...But he also knows that we as a human race can be very stubborn and sometimes can only learn lessons when we are completely broken. And so He acts as the loving parent to us and does what He has to do so that we can have the best life has to offer.

Dear Febe and all ,

Any impression which " paints " God as being inappropriately brutish and / or indifferent towards the suffering of affliction is a redirected projection of Satan's own character .

Because it is written -

Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? and one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father.
But the very hairs of your head are all numbered.
Fear ye not therefore, ye are of more value than many sparrows.
<-----> Matthew 10:29-31

The Book of Job is all about the trial of resisting successfully , while under distress , the tendency to view God as somehow wrong or at fault when things seem to go terribly wrong .

And clearly , it is Satan , in the Book of Job who is behind the tragedies which befell Job and his family .

Furthermore , physical death is no obstacle to God who can resurrect the dead at will , and give unto those He chooses an infinitely far better and enduring life than the one that was lost .

Consider the three principles of faith as received in this mortal soul .

1. Nothing can occur unless God allows it .

2. Just because God allows something doesn't mean He approves of it . ( Part of the allowance of free will )

3. But if God allows that which He approves not , it is only because He already has a remedy in place which will exceedingly outlast and outweigh any evil which occurred via such allowances - or else He would not allow it !

This theme is repeated over and over in The Holy Bible , usually with poignant
symbolism because as it is written -

...Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him. <-----> 1st Corinthians 2:9

Sincerely ,

Praise the Lord for your insight and clear explanation of how the enemy projects his character into the unbelief brought on through our own perception of things. I believe that the book of Job was written to show us that this unbelief or 'thinking bad of God' in dire situations is the natural human reaction. But Job is used as an example of what faith in God can carry us through ... as long as we hang onto that faith and trust that He knows what's best, despite our losses.
