Police in Minnneapolis executed a no-knock warrant on an apartment, found a guy with a gun, and shot him dead. He wasn't the guy they were after, and he legally owned the gun.

Amir Locke: Body camera video shows Minneapolis officers shooting Black man during no-knock warrant - CNN

I think the police officer who shot Amir Locke did nothing wrong. He was just following police procedures. But I think the no-knock policy needs to be changed. Amir Locke also did nothing wrong. He had been asleep, and he was startled by police bursting into his home. There was no reason for his death besides the incompetence of the policy makers.

The story doesn't say the police were after anyone at all. They had a warrant to search the apartment. No-knock warrants are used by the police in cases where evidence might be destroyed or the officers' safety might be jeopardized.

Well, Locke himself was not named in the warrants. From the sound of it, they were doing a sweep of part of the apartment building.

one thought, anyone who can aim a gun at police within seconds of them hitting the door from under a blanket had to be sleeping with a gun. A criminal could have been much better prepared with more firepower if they had knocked at the door and waited for the bullets to answer. There are good reasons for no knock warrants being issued.

This concerns me every time it comes up. When a gun is shown how can they expect the police to stop and ask questions? We wouldn't have any police left.

It is a legal right to own a firearm in the US. If the government can kill me for exercising my legal right it is no longer a right.

Yes, but this man was not a criminal. He was a citizen exercising his legally protected right to own a firearm and he was killed by the government. Does this not concern you as a supporter of the second amendment?

So who was the murder suspect? While today they are protesting for justice for this young guy, what about justice for the murder victim? Are priorities skewed in today's world?
We don’t even know what the warrant was about yet…

"Evidence might be destroyed" is a lousy reason. Nobody can flush a meth lab or a marijuana farm down a toilet. The only evidence that could be destroyed in such a short time would be a small amount that would not result in an arrest for a crime worth the risk of killing the wrong person. The risk is not worth it for someone with a "dime bag" of crack that could be flushed down a toilet.

Considering the risk of the death of the wrong person, the only justifiable reason for a no-knock raid would be to save the life of someone in imminent danger. Otherwise, the police can wait for a more optimum situation.

There are a whole lot of citizen gun owners who would dispute that, including me. Yes, I certainly can have a gun in my hands within seconds of someone kicking down my door...I train for that possibility.

They would certainly find me armed under the same circumstances.

It is not a legal right to point a gun at a person, when people do that they sometimes end up dead. So just to ease your mind the person was not killed for exercising his legal rights. That misstatement of the facts is simply inflammatory.

NO it does not. He was killed because he pointed his gun at an armed police officer. It has nothing what so ever to do with his legally protected rights to own a firearm.

Causes me to think that the man felt very threatened which makes me think that this apartment house was a high violent crime location which accounts for the no knock and the swat team. Since you are well trained, I doubt that you would have pointed a gun at an armed police officer who had identified himself several times.

They said on the news that they had the wrong house. It doesn't change the fact that many think the police should do nothing when a gun is aimed at them
