No date yet for Blessed Romero canonization, archbishop says

Oscar Cardinal Romero's official Sainthood is long overdue IMO. I was glad that Pope Francis beautified him after years of tie-ups over what seemed like essentially political objections by John-Paul II and Benedict XVI. The process should continue to move forward. It seems almost criminal that JP2 was canonized before Cardinal Romero, even though Cardinal Romero died all those years earlier and had a much clearer case for Sainthood, with nothing like presiding over a Church that developed a severe sexual abuse crisis hanging over his head.

My understanding is that if Romero were declared a martyr for the faith the sainthood process would be truncated and no miracles would be required. Explain to me how a bishop who stood up to the oppressors and for the "least among us" and was assassinated while saying Mass is not a martyr? Romero was a saint the moment his heart stopped beating. That he has not been declared one "officially" is a huge embarrassment for the Church.
