• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Like everyone else, I know I need to quit, but I have no courage and I'm afraid that the next time I try will turn out like all the other times I tried to quit, unsuccessful.

Fear and lack of courage seem to be my stumbling blocks.

You will be successful if you keep trying and keep praying. It takes people varying amounts of time to quit. But I know you can do it because I've done it too. God bless you and I'm praying for you.

Faithfully,
CH Sacerdote

Maybe God has heard some prayers.

Last Wed. I fell prey to a chest cold, my lungs got full of crud, head & muscles ached, missed work w-f and I stayed in bed. Three days I slept, ate nothing and drank very little water...was so sick I didn't even crave for a cigarette. Now I'm feeling a bit better and am determined that since the nicotine is out of my system, I'd like to keep it that way. Maybe the craving will not return but most likely it will return...either way I want to thank you guys for your prayers...it is appreciated!

Very sorry to hear about you being sick but very glad to hear about not craving a cigarette. Praying God keeps the urge for a cigarette away from you. Lean on Him during this time. You're fighting a hard battle but you have the best ally you could ask for. Good luck and God Bless my friend!!

How are you doing Mike??

It's tough. After about 5 days I picked them up again. I think it was more out of habit than anything else. I sure regret lighting that first one up.

If God ever wanted to show off His power...I'd be more than happy to be the recipient. Considering the prayers I've offered and the sincerity of my heart I sometimes wonder why He just doesn't step in and heal me. I read of Jesus in the NT and see all the people He healed. Surely it wouldn't be any more difficult for Him to heal me...would it?

Maybe He doesn't because it is self inflicted?

Stay strong brother? I've got a question. Are you sure you are ready to quit? The only reason I asked is because I work with a guy who quit smoking a few years back. I was talking to him about it and he told me that the thing that helped him was that he got to the point where he actually wanted to give them up. I think knowing you should and wanting to are 2 different things. Keep praying about it. Don't give up man. Best of luck.
