but you know he more than likely voted for GW.
Thought I would just point out the fact that Phelps lost because of what he did to the parent of a soldier killed in Iraq- not because of his hatred for homosexuals.
Hope you got that because it is wrong to gloat this as being a victory for gays at the expense of the suffering of a fallen hero's parents.
Last year Fred Phelps was planning to protest a church-sanctioned marine funeral in our community.
The churches joined hands with the community and barricaded the cemetary.
Phelps didn't show up. tisk tisk.
He would have gotten more fundamentalism from us than he ever prayed for.
I have not seen anyone posting here who is as extreme in their views as Fred Phelps.
As much as I detest Phelps and his methods, I defend his right to do so. Unless a jurisdiction has a law against picketing funerals, he has the right to do so.
I really don't think any of this money will be collected.
You can't start fining people because they don't like what you stand for and aren't afraid to say so.
Just a question: Would your churches have joined hands, if they had come to harrass the parents of a deceased Gay person ?
The Act was sponsored by Rep. Mike J. Rogers, a Republican from Michigan. It was introduced in large part to combat the campaign by Fred Phelps from the Westboro Baptist Church, of Topeka, Kansas. Phelps and his supporters regularly demonstrate at the funerals of American soldiers who lost their lives in the war in Iraq. While protest is normally protected by the First Amendment, verbal abuse and fighting words are not; see Chaplinsky v. New Hampshire.
"Families deserve the time to bury their American heroes with dignity and in peace," Rogers said. "It saddens me that such a law is necessary, but it is crucial that America put its arms around these grieving families and say ‘we support you and thank you for the sacrifice your loved one has made for our nation’ and that we will do what it takes to protect your right to mourn in quiet peace and with dignity."
Democratic Party
Phelps has run in various Kansas Democratic Party primaries five times, but has never won. These included races for governor in 1990, 1994, and 1998, receiving about 15% of the vote in 1998.[34] In the 1992 Democratic Party primary for U.S. Senate, Phelps received 31% of the vote [35] Phelps ran for mayor of Topeka in 1993 [36] and 1997. [37]
In 1998, Westboro picketed the funeral of Gore's father, screaming vulgarities at Gore and telling him, "your dad's in Hell."[44]
While its members identify themselves as Baptists, the church is an independent church not affiliated with any known Baptist conventions or associations, nor does any Baptist institution recognize the church as a Bible believing fellowship.
Phelps earned a law degree from Washburn University in 1962, and founded the Phelps Chartered law firm in 1964. The first notable cases were of a civil rights nature. "I systematically brought down the Jim Crow laws of this town," he says.[10] Phelps' daughter was quoted as saying, "We took on the Jim Crow establishment, and Kansas did not take that sitting down. They used to shoot our car windows out, screaming we were [wash my mouth][wash my mouth][wash my mouth][wash my mouth][wash my mouth][wash my mouth] lovers," and that the Phelps law firm made up one-third of the state’s federal docket of civil-rights cases.[13]
Phelps took cases on behalf of African American clients alleging discrimination by school systems, and a predominately black American Legion post which had been raided by police, alleging racially-based police abuse.
I don't think you'll have to worry about Fred Phelps anymore. It's soranora
Y'all pass the offering plate for poor ole' Freddie now. He's only gotta come up with $12 million.
Note that George Bush signed the Respect for Fallen Heroes Act in response to Phelps, and it was a Republican initiative:
by the way, Phelps is a democrat:

Get this, he protested at Al Gore's father's funeral:
It seems Fred is really tight with hell's curators -- a job he'd surely enjoy.
about Westboro
Now this one is a real Gem. Fred Phelps was acivil rights attorney FOR african americans:
Well, so much for the african-american civil rights analogy that's been thrown at us fundies!
Look whose side Fred Phelps was on!
I'll have to mention that the next time Pirate comes along with his civil rights analogy, calling us fundies slave-lovers. Me thinks the sterotype was just shattered BIG TIME.
Your becoming incoherent in your writings.
It's a free country, so with that comes the "ok" for people like this maniac to be able to assemble in our country. The problem is, they are invading someones PERSONAL space when it comes to funerals, etc.. Just the TYPE of person that would do this, and THOSE that would FOLLOW shows you how morally corrupt people are in our society..not to mention psychotic. I hate these sorta protests, but @ the same time, I would like nothing more than to see some counter demonstrations that show God hates this country b/c of radical fundamentalists like this man using the word of GOD spewing HATRED!!! Truly and utterly unbelievable that groups like this exist! Let them try to do something like that in the Northeast. They'd never get away with it. That's why the weak hang out in our plain states where they can get away with such unacceptable behavior as that. Not to go off topic here (but I wll), I only read this week alone all the backward activity going on in our beautiful bible belt. 22 out of 54 cities with the highest number of "drop out schools" belong to none other than OK and TX! HIghest # of pregnancies for girls 15-19...TEXAS and over 25% of them are SECOND CHILDREN!!! Highest rates of homocide...Tulsa/Oklahoma city.... In OK alone, less than 48% of hispanic women graducate HIGH SCHOOL!!! These are stats for 2007 in the USOFA!!! Shocking!!! yet this is where they hold to the bible the hardest, strongest... wake up people!!! Clearly the record shows why they have all their made up churches there..they can get away with it in a dumb/backwards society! Is everyone in our beautiful bible belt unintelligent and a high school drop out?? of course not..but let the record show...the highest concentrations come from there. Ignorance sure is bliss.
They can start going after his personal property, just like the Goldbergs did and are doing to OJ. In addition, I do not see anything in our constitution, that says it is ok to harrass grieving families at a funeral. That may be your backward interpetation. But the courts and jury have decided otherwise. Praise God.
There also ain't nothing in the Constitution that says its illegal to stand and picket a funeral.
They didn't keep the funeral from taking place. And they didn't interfere with anyone else's ability to attend the funeral.
Free speech. Folks may not like it or the way he does it, but he has the right to say it.
And they ain't collecting a penny.
I can't remember when he and his were over at the school near me, or from any news stories on TV about this group, if they use obscenities or not. If they do there is a law that would make the freedom of speech law not work for them.
Oh, for the times when people didn't do things like this, but we can't go back. Christians need to stand against such extremists no matter what. So sad, so sad, how this group can think that the Lord wants them to do this.
We are a sinful nation, and I know that the Lord is sad over the way we have changed from the God fearing country we used to be, but the Bible plainly says that vengeance is His.
God-fearing, doubt it. More like a mask with cracks.I can't remember when he and his were over at the school near me, or from any news stories on TV about this group, if they use obscenities or not. If they do there is a law that would make the freedom of speech law not work for them.
Obscenity and Prior Restraint .--Only in the obscenity area has there emerged a substantial consideration of the doctrine of prior restraint and the doctrine's use there may be based upon the proposition that obscenity is not a protected form of expression. 65 In Kingsley Books v. Brown, 66 the Court upheld a state statute which, while it embodied some features of prior restraint, was seen as having little more restraining effect than an ordinary criminal statute; that is, the law's penalties applied only after publication. But in Times Film Corp. v. City of Chicago, 67 a divided Court specifically affirmed that, at least in the case of motion pictures, the First Amendment did not proscribe a licensing system under which a board of censors could refuse to license for public exhibition films which it found to be obscene. Books and periodicals may also be subjected to some forms of prior restraint, 68 but the thrust of the Court's opinions in this area with regard to all forms of communication has been to establish strict standards of procedural protections to ensure that the censoring agency bears the burden of proof on obscenity, that only a judicial order can restrain exhibition, and that a prompt final judicial decision is assured. 69

this would be the perfect thing to get them on. But being a Church Group, he probably ain't taking anyone out there who has a penchant for cussing.
Biblically speaking, the connection can be made to ttruth in some of the thigs he says. But if you want someone to listen to the truth, do you run around with signs calling people derogatory names on them?
I said it yesterday, and God's Word testifies as such. Which is why I said there is truth in some of the things Phleps says.
God will give us over to what we think we need just as HE did with Israel again and again and again. And because of our own evil desires, we place ourselves in a pickle.

Did Ryan White's parents sue anybody?Sure= who did the parents of Ryan White sue ?
Hope that cleared it up for you.
Have a look around - you WILL find them. There are people here that believe that we are at war because some people believe that homosexuality isn't a sin, and that is God's punishment to us?
Boy, I sure have missed those post, could you give a link please.
