Why doesn't Nintendo get OUT of the console business. Look, I'm not a Nintendo hater and have a GameCube, but the selection of games is not very good. They should align themselves with either Sony or Microsoft. They should get over their feud with Sony after the PS and just make games exclusively for them, or Microsoft, although I might prefer the games on the PS3. Now, there are good games for the GameCube, but no third-party exclusives were at all good for the GameCube and that is disappointing because Xbox has Halo and PS2 has all of the Final Fantasy games, except for the piece of trash Crystal Chronicles. Look at all of the great games coming out for other systems and the PC (my personal favorite). List of great games (Will list controversial games that sold a LOT):
PS2:
Final Fantasy X & XI
Grand Theft Auto: III, Vice City, and San Andreas (two aren't fully exclusive)
Killzone (seen much about it and it looks great)
Devil May Cry 1 & 2 (possibly the new one)
Ace Combat 4: Distant Thunder
Grand Turismo: 3 A-Spec (hopefully 4)
Jak & Dexter
Rachet & Clank
Kingdom Hearts (2 looks pretty good even though I don't like Disney)
Midnight Club 1 & 2 (DUB edition looks awesome)
The Getaway
Tekken games
Xbox:
All of the XSN Sports Games (discontinued)
Counter-Strike
Doom III (when it comes out)
Full Spectrum Warrior
Halo 1 & 2
Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic (Sith Lords looks good)
Steel Battalion
The Elder Scrolls III Morrowind
Vietcong Purple Haze
Dead or Alive games
Now, look at great exclusives on the GameCube:
Resident Evil games
Star Fox (didn't like them but some did)
Legend of Zelda games
Metroid Games
PC has great exclusives:
Almost all MMORPGs
Half-Life 2
Almost all RTS games
some RPGs
Lots of shooters
You see, the GameCube has some good games but I don't think enough to warrant buying the system over others. Nintendo just needs to create game for other systems and they'll do just fine.

Umm... I actually think Nintendo is the best. Why did I get rid of my PS2? Because it sucked. The two games I liked I can get with GC, so why keep the crappiness? Xbox... that's just even worse. I happen to love Nintendo games... you can't get better than Mario, Zelda, Donkey Kong, etc.

GameCube is the only console I own. Because I like their high quality games like zelda, mario, and metroid. I like Nintendo cause they are comitted to fully polishing their games. They also have made many innovative advancements to the gaming industry. Whether it be analog sticks, or every platform game being based off of mario 64.

That being said Nintendo doesn't really seem to fully understand the current market. So unless revolution (codename for the next nintendo system) is a true revolution I have trouble seeing them succed beyond a niche market. And they will be forced to take the path of sega.

That however will sadden me as I'm not sure they will be able to keep the same commitment to quality or show any hardware innovations if they drop out of the console business. However I like to choose one console and it would be nice to have the opportunity to enjoy nintendoes games as well as the large library found on other systems.

That being said some great recent games and games that are coming for cube (not all exclusive):
Pikmin 2, Mario Power Tennis, Metroid Prime 2: Echoes, Prince of Persia Warior Within, Viewtiful Jo, Starfox, LOTR: Third Age, Resident Evil 4, Baiten Katos, Tales of Symphonia, Paper Mario 2, Realistic Zelda (okay this one is a ways off).

Ok here's the deal with the console wars...

PS2 has fast gameplay and slightly gritty graphics.
Xbox has excellent graphics and slower gameplay.
GameCube has the best speed, best sound, and the best graphics.

Now, with that said, GameCube is a load of **** for one thing: MINIDISCS. These crappy little dvd minidiscs knocked off most of anyone who wanted to put a game on their superior system, as they would have to create a game with less gameplay options in order to have enough room for the game to even play on the GC. However, PS3 is using the same idea as GC, except for one thing: the minidisc will pull the majority of it's info from a 3rd party source, most likely a sony server. Had nintendo done this, they could rule the console world. Unfortunately, with that stupid move, they should just stick with handhelds.

For the most part I don't care for offline games, unless it is a lan game. I have been there and done that for many years.
I wanted online, I wanted competition, I wanted to be the best in the world.

Xbox went after that market, and they have put out the best product for that style of gamer.

PS2 went after kids, online hardcore gamers, and PS1 owners.Basicly almost every gamer out there. They make a very good product on all fronts, and with Sony's marketing they have dominated the scene.

Nintendo just made a product for their base of nintendo fans. They know they have a decent following for this sort of thing, and they went in that direction.
They said forget the online part, we have enough of the market to make some money.
Forget risks of new games that cost alot of money to make. Lets just sell what have has been selling for years.
And why not, your average gamer isn't hardcore. They could care less about competition.

From what I hear, nintendo has made money on every system. And the question is this, "Is the market big enough for them to survive on their fan base?".
If yes, then don't expect much change.
If maybe, then expect some change.
They led the gaming industry for years, I think they don't feel they need to take risks to make money.

I have researched every single aspect of all the next-gen consoles as well as several older consoles, so I do speak from sound research when I say that Xbox is not better than Gamecube. The only thing Xbox has that Gamecube doesen't have is a more expansive sound system (hence why the Halo soundtrack is such a wonderful work of musical art). However, even though the sound is more expansive, the quality is nowhere near as good as Gamecube. Same with PS2. The PS2 has faster graphical output, but the picture quality is much better on the Gamecube.

Now, I must say that I am quite the fan of Nintendo. I've been playing the Metroid series since it's original release on NES. I've actually beaten every Metroid, except for Metroid Prime. Now, even though I am a monster fan of Metroid, that alone is not enough for me to stick with the Gamecube. I mean, when I decided I wanted a Super Nintendo over a Sega, it wasn't because of games like Metroid and Donkey Kong that drew me in... It was their MASSIVE game selection. Their selection of games drew many of their fans in, which is why they lost about 25% of their fanbase with the release of the Gamecube. The selection is just not there anymore. However, they do still have the best selection when it comes to the handheld world, which is why I own a Gameboy, Gameboy Color, Gameboy Advance, and, when it's released, the Nintendo DS. The selection on these systems are gigantic!!! And they are all backward compatible, so I can still play the original Super Mario Land, even on the newer systems!!! (Nintendo actually had the backwards compatibility right on everything except for the N64 and Gamecube. They don't offer any hardware to play Super Nintendo and NES games on those consoles. That alone would have convinced me to buy a Gamecube.)

The fact that Nintendo hasn't conformed is what makes them so great. Nintendo teaches developers to create games that they [the developer] likes. It shows in their games, and it's something no other company can duplicate, or destroy.

Nintendo is like a beautiful flower on an island. Secluded and unique, unaffected by the land that is Microsoft and Sony - and I hope it stays that way.

Nintendo does NOT allow gaming companies to do what they like. ON THE CONTRARY, the fact that they use minidiscs forces game developers to make games that are something like what they want, but not completely, since there just isn't enough room on the minidisc!!!

I don't see where anyone said that Nintendo did let developers do what they like.

Nintendo's methods definitely cripple it to the mass market, yet it can't be denied that Nintendo's games are some of the finest ever made. That's the reason I choose to stick with it, but I can certainly see how it wouldn't whet everyone's appetite.

multiple discs means more money, as you pay more for minidiscs than you do for regular dvds. most distributers are unwilling to pay the additional amount just to put the same game that fits on 1 dvd on multiple minidiscs. It's just not worth the cost, especially with games with multiple discs already. (Which covers the majority of RPGs (America's best selling genre))
