Hello all!

I am kind of new on CF and very new here on this board. But, having finally decided to end my dual citizenship (Please see my thread on the One Bread, One Body board entitled "Decisions") I thought I would say hello over here!

HELLO OVER HERE!

My name is Elizabeth, I am from Connecticut, married with one daughter. I am Office manager of and attend Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Waterbury, CT, where I was Chrismated this past March. I am of Irish heritage, and married to a German-Irish man (non-Orthodox), which confuses the heck out of the Greeks here - they can't figure out why on earth I'm here! lol

So, anyhow, as my subject line says, Nice to Meet You All!

Hello, Elizabeth!

In the early years of my marriage, people generally assumed that I became Orthodox in order to marry my Greek husband. Many were surprised by my response that such was not at all the case. (I converted while a senior in college, and met him later while in graduate school, and we were attending the same parish!)

None of our four children look at all "Greek", even though they are "half."

I find that people immediately assume you became Orthodox because you married an Orthodox. Often they dont seem to be able to comprehend why you are there otherwise! I get this response all the time....

Cheers
Fiona

Welcome: Elizabeth, Fiona and Orthodox 6:

It's good to see new faces.

I too was chrismated in the Greek Orthodox Church. It's funny because I sing in very good Greek and people ask me what city in Greece I am from. My husband isn't Greek either.

Welcome home.

Lovingly yours in Christ our God,
Elizabeth

Welcome, Elizabeth! I'm a convert, too!

There's a Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in my city, too, although I go to a different one most of the time. In fact, I think all the GO churches in this state are called Holy Trinity.

Since I'm only 20, most people don't realize I became Orthodox for its own sake. They usually assume I have a boyfriend who is Orthodox or whatever. (I don't have a boyfriend, period. ) One time, when someone asked if I converted because of a guy, I pointed at an icon of Christ and said, "Yeah, that guy right there!" ;)
