  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

So, the end of the regular season is upon us, and the playoffs are set to begin! Who are you cheering for? Who are you cheering against?

Personally, I'm a lifelong Habs fan, so if/when they make the playoffs, they will have my support.

I hope the Leafs are golfing this time next week. Other than that, I have no real preferences in the East.

In the West, I'm all about the Canucks not winning. I like Anaheim and San Jose and Calgary, but beyond that I have no real favourites.

What say you? Which Canadian team do you think has the best shot at bringing Stanley home?

Since I was 11 (in 1981) I've been an Oiler's fan, they gave me quite a thrill last year. But they self-destructed in the last month and are out. Boston (My Dad's team) has always been my second, they're out too. So now I'm hoping for Calgary, Vancouver and Ottawa (and Toronto, if they get in). Not Montreal though, no Boston fan would ever want to see the Habs win! So I'm going Canadian but not Canadien this year. :)

My dad is a Leafs fan, and I grew up being a Leafs fan (even after my parents divorced when I was 6).
My ex boyfriend likes the Habs, I've known him since I was 14 and he has pretty much convinced me after all these years of trying... lol. He went to Montreal last month to a game against the Leafs on St. Patrick's Day... and he was talking about me going with him in October... I'd love to go.

Some interesting game on tonight! Montreal at Toronto for their final game, winner makes the playoffs, loser is out. Go LEAFS!!!!!!
Yeah I know!!!
I'll be happy either way...

I thought if Montreal wins, then they go to the playoffs... but if Toronto wins, then the Islanders have to lose two games for Toronto to be in the playoffs?

That's true. Also, if Montreal loses in overtime or shootout, they'll be tied in the standings with Toronto, but will be ahead because of more wins. But then there is still the risk that the Islanders win both of their games, which would put them ahead. Only a win will guarantee Montreal a playoff spot.

I'm from Vancouver so, naturally, I'm a Canucks fan 100%. I have a good feeling we'll do well this year if Luongo plays like he has all season and the Sedins keep the puck in the oppositions end like they have been. In the east I've got a strong feeling NJ is gonna do well this year, wouldn't want to meet them in the playoffs. Buffalo will be scary in The East as well. Well whatever happens i'm looking forward to the playoffs starting....it's better than Christmas!!

Ha. I was thoroughly depressed when the Islanders won. Two years straight with no playoff appearance. It's funny because I should starting looking for another team, but I still love 'em. I'm now rootin for Flames (Iginla is a great player), or the Sens (I live a few hours away, so there's chance for catching a game!!!)

What's with the hate people seem to have against the Canucks?

Go Canucks Go: Canucks lead series 2-1.

I've had a dislike going for the Canucks since '94. The fans out here turned me off. Then I went away for five years and escaped all that. But upon my return, I still found the Canucks atmosphere annoying. It seemed like there were a ton of Canucks fans, but they weren't also hockey fans. Know what I mean? They were fans of the team, not the game. And I hated that.

Now, I've got some good friends who are Canucks fans, so I'm not as bitter as I once was. I still don't want to see them win, though.
