  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hi everyone,

I am two weeks late on my period and just took a pregnancy test that came up positive, so I'm pretty sure that I'm pregnant. I told my husband, but no one else, and don't want to say anything until we know for sure from the doctor, but with my work schedule it is very difficult to leave for any time during the day, especially since they know I just recently went for a physical and yearly "women's exam." I keep reading that the first doctor's appointment is a long one, but does that count the one where they verify that you are pregnant or is that actually a separate appointment? I wasn't sure if all that happens at the first appointment would happen right away or if that's a little further down the line, because I think I could leave work for a shorter amount of time without having to explain myself.

Also, just wanted some thoughts or maybe prayers about something else...before I realized that I was or could be pregnant, I had a couple of drinks (2 one weekend and one the next). I drink VERY rarely to begin with and just happened have some thinking I was fine, but now I'm scared that I could have done something very wrong. Please give me your thoughts on this and if anyone knows more about it. I would feel absolutely awful if I did something to hurt my baby.

I have a feeling I may be on here a lot in the upcoming months so thanks ahead of time for your support!!

Congrats!

If a home pregnancy test says you're pregnant then it's 99.9% sure that you ARE pregnant. The rate of false positives is very low. My first exams have always been long which have included a pap smear and blood draws. Maybe you can try to schedule for the last appointment of the day so you can minimize that amount of time you need to take off work. When I was pregnant with my first I wasn't legal to drive in the US so my hubby would need to drive me to the appointments so we always scheduled them for the last appointment on a Friday.

As far as the drinking is concerned it's HIGHLY unlikely that harm would come to your baby from what you described. Many women have the occasional glass of wine during pregnancy and have healthy babies. You need to try and stop stressing over it because the stress over worrying will be more harmful than the couple of drinks you had.

Congratulations:clap:
My first appt. was long but, I had already went to local clinic to find out I was pregnant. I would need state aid to have a baby. So I had to know before hand. You could search for a clinic that talks walk ins.

Congratulations!

I just had my first dr's appt yesterday, and it lasted only 1/2 hour. I had my pap smear less than a year ago, so I don't know if that had anything to do with it. My dr did a transvaginal u/s and I went for bloodwork. I will have more tomorrow , and I'll have another exam and u/s next week to see about the heartbeat. I want to add that I have been a patient of this doctor for a while, so he already had my personal and family medical history (which can take a while)

As for the alcohol, my doctor told me that I could "drink until pink" (until I got a positive pregnancy test).

Congrats! Really, don't worry about the drinking; not a deal. One of my friend's friends (and absolute trainwreck) was leaving her boyfriend and basically spent three months drunk...like plastered drunk. Unfortunately, she was pregnant for those three months. Her child is perfect. Obviously, I wouldn't recommend getting smashed or drinking more, but don't worry about those couple drinks.
