Newbie (Trusting others)

Hello everyone I am a newbie here, I just came across this forum and it seems like a pretty good bunch of folks here. I guess what I have on my mind is an issue of trusting some one whom has betrayed me and others in the past. I know that we are to forgive others and I have been trying to work through this but I still find myself steering around this individual because of the former actions that this person committed. I kinda look at it like if I was out walking and a stray dog came up and bit me on the leg, I would probably remember how bad it hurt....and possibbly forgive the dog (he maybe was just being protective of his yard) be I would have a hard time trusting him in the future(probbably walk a different rout to avoid confontation) Kind of silly huh......anyway any replies or scripture suggestions would be appreciated.  Thanks in advance gstrat

gstrat, first off, welcome to the MB and I hope you have a productive and enjoyable experience here.

Now, to your question. Let me sum this up by saying that there is a real biblical difference between "forgive" and "forget." We are not commanded to "forget" something has happened.

I don't know if you have kids but I do. If someone was babysitting my children and they got hurt, for whatever reason, I am commanded by my Lord to forgive them, that is, no longer "hold" it against them, or IOW, to give up the debt they owe. That does not mean that I will ask them to babysit again. Understand the difference?

Hope this helps,
God bless

Thanks for the reply thus far, sometimes it is easy to get a idea in your head about something and you cant see a different point of view or get the message you need from the bible because you become too close to the problem......I guess thats why I threw this post out there to see if there might be a different take on the subject of trusting others that have betrayed a person (Sorry if I am talking circles its late and I cant seem to get sleepy enough to go to bed)

I agree with Reform, we don't forget but we do forgive. IF ur having trouble forgiving, ask God to help u with this. He'll help u to get past this.
