Hello, I cannot tell you how happy I am to find this forum. An online Christian community is a blessing! I happened to stumble across your website after doing a net search on "Christian advice computer addiction" and now am wondering if there is a forum on this site that specifically deals with computer addiction. I saw the Recovery forums but didn't see one specifically for computer addictions. Can someone point me in the right direction? Thank you!! -Kelley

There is an irony about joining a web forum in a search for help for computer addiction that made me smile. I say that very kindly, I know how it is. And welcome.

Hi David, I agree, it is a bit amusing. However, the help I am seeking is not directly for me. God has revealed my heart to me and after years of excuses, I have finally humbled my heart and removed my computer from it's "high place" in my life. It now resides in our lowly basement and I visit it only twice per day, once in the morning after my time with Him and once in the evening before bed. Occasionally I come down for another thing, such as I did early this evening trying to seek a place online where other Christians might help me open the eyes of my husband to his computer addiction.

I checked out the Computers & Internet - Christian Forums link that NoelAsa pointed toward. It's not going to work. It appears to be the exact opposite of what I am seeking. Even so, thank you!

Perhaps someone will come along with another idea to my original question.

Good night and may God continue His blessings of you!

Kelley

Kelley, I am relatively new here and am not sure how one goes about initiating a new forum within this site, but my suspicion is that the general problem that you are highlighting is far from unique.

It may be that you could be instrumental in starting a new area of discussion. You have obviously had a form of revelation concerning your own time on/use of computers, are very concerned about your husband's addiction, and likewise I have greatly curtailed my own use. It's quite difficult to articulate, but at a given point I also had a sudden revelation as to how my use of computers was impacting my life. At its worst, I would almost go so far as to say that one can begin living largely what one could term a kind of alternate cyber reality.

If there is a way that we could open some new forum/thread of discussion, it would be interesting to see what emerges. I'm personally not sure exactly what I am proposing, but simply expressing my interest in what you have said.

God bless you
David

At its worst, I would almost go so far as to say that one can begin living largely what one could term a kind of alternate cyber reality.

Yes, an alternative reality is exactly (not "almost") what life becomes and those around you suffer and some eventually take the same plunge in response to their loneliness. This is what I did and our eldest son has now done so. I can't blame him. The lifestyle is modeled daily for him.

I've launched a battle against this numerous times before but have always succumbed to the brick wall which seems impossible to penetrate and have always thrown in the towel: if you can't beat 'em, then join 'em.

Now I realize that I cannot spend my life pleasing people. My life must be spent in the pursuit of pleasing God. In computer addiction, like in so many other addictions, we spend our life pleasing our flesh, even the flesh of others. This is not why we were created.

We are created for the sole purpose of pleasing and glorifying our Creator. God has made this crystal clear in His word. My prayer is that this Truth, that I am made to pursue God and nothing more, will strengthen me in the battle. No longer can I afford to grow weary.

Creating a forum? As a newbie, I am not sure how to go about it, either. Perhaps Krissy Cakes can tell us how or where to make it happen.

Thank you, David, for you welcome, your heartfelt response and your interest.

Blessings,
Kelley

Kelley, I stumbled on a "Suggest New Forums" section and I mentioned the theme of your request on there. So we shall wait and see.

Awesome. Do let me know if it comes along! In the meantime, is there a forum you would suggest for getting to know others?
