  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Stay home and off the roads. Might make something to eat from my tome of a cookbook. Have a few fun movies to watch. Probably going to tap out and go to bed before midnight.

Exciting, I know.

At least Christmas has potential for people to consider the Lord Jesus and why He came. New Year simply means broken resolutions and unfulfilled hopes. I've made one resolution that I've kept, which was never to make another New Year's resolution.

If the weather isn’t too bad, we’ll grab Champagne minis and take a carriage ride along the lake. Or we’ll watch the fireworks instead. Whatever we decide, we’ll celebrate the year that passed and the blessings we’ve been given.

And I have my NYE call with my best friend. We declare our theme, word of the year, and reaffirm our bond. It’s a tradition we began 16 years ago. This one will be special.

Currently no plans and no expectations that will change.

The annual Royal Variety Performance gets broadcast here on New Year's Eve, so it has been something of a tradition for me to watch it, but I don't think I'm going to bother this year. I've become less and less enthused about watching it over the past few years, and looking at the acts for this year's one there's nobody that I'm particularly interested in seeing.

Try to go to bed early since I gotta get up at 5am for a 12hr shift on New Year Day. I will likely make black eye peas, cabbage, and corn bread which is a southern tradition I still like to celebrate.
do you like corned beef, too?

Oh, okay. I was just checking. Southerners usually fix corned beef with the food you mentioned in your post. I was just curious.

Hmmm...I always thought corned beef and cabbage was more a northern food and Irish. LOL. I see you are right but that must be further east. I am from Texas. Though, now I think about it, corn beef and hash may be something I have seen on some country cafe menus. ;)

I do miss the New Year's Eve service my Houston church used to have. It just seemed like the best place to ring in the New Year.

Nothing different at all.
I am thankful to God for His blessings and mercies for this year (as we all are).

Frankly I can't stand New Years Eve, and here in Australia I am so disgusted that the cities are all having their fireworks when so much of Aus. is on fire.
I don't like the money spent when so many are in poverty or homeless and don't like it any year for that reason, but this year , cannot believe it.

The councils say they cost $250,000 but that's only the fireworks themselves. In Melbourne its costing $3.7 million and Sydney over $5 million, this is because of all the costs involved such as security etc.
I am ashamed of this.

However I hope and pray for everyone to stay safe and God bless you all.
