  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hi all,

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that Sundays are a day off from our lenten fasting. If you count the days from Ash Wednesday to Easter, and omit Sundays, you get 40 days. Since Sunday is a day of rest and joy, we can "rest" of our fast. Am I right on this?

Yours in Christ,
Edward

Yes, thanks for bringing that up Edward.

I really do enjoy my fish & chips, to the point that I limit myself to it to about 3 or 4 times a year.

You do go for the fries, right nyj?

Mmmm, fish -n- chips. You know, I was going to go grab some sushi tonight but I might have to find a place that has some good fish-n-chips. Of course, in a completely land-locked state, that might be an impossibility ( why I'll eat sushi here is anyone's guess :p )

Whoa! Hold the phone! There is absolutely no comparison between batter-dipped deep-fried filet of cod with malt vinegar... and a 'fish stick'. Are we having a cultural misunderstanding here? A fish stick to me means Mrs. Paul's in the freezer section of my grocery store. They are about finger long and finger wide. Fresh fried fish is a whole other Oprah, and you and I could probably bond over that. The Shanakee (an Irish pub where I live) has the best fish and chips I have ever eaten. I live, and grew up on the coast, where fresh fish comes in daily by the boatload. There are no Long John Silver's here because no-one would eat there. That's just grocery store freezer fish that someone else cooks for you.

No, no misunderstanding... I just started having food flash backs as I was typing. I agree, a fish stick couldn't compare to even your average meal of fish-n-chips, but they're still yummy. They're like chicken nuggets... well, without the chicken of course! :D

And now, it being 8 o'clock and all... I'm going to grab some grub. Ciao!

It's really good. My advice would be to start with a non-fish roll; avocado's quite yummy, and get used to the texture and taste and seaweed. then progress to a salmon roll; the texture's nearly identical and the flavor's very mild. I actually prefer raw salmon to cooked.

I meant cooked fish.

I don't think I could bring myself to even try sushi. I'm not that mature.

ZooMom, Peace be with you.

Stay away from the Sushi and Sashime!  Once you try it, you will be addicted too!!!!  Due to my wife and I going through pregnancy and now breast feeding, we are craving Sushi in a BIG way!  Once we wean the little one, you can bet what our first meal out will be!

CP, Peace be with you.

Congratulations on your upcoming Confirmation.  May the graces bestowed on you give you strength and understanding.

I did not read through the entire thread for once.  But I would like to remind you to make every effort to attend the Friday services during lent.  Especially the stations of the cross and Eucharistic Adoration.  It is important for you (and all of us) to spend time before the Blessed Eucharist.  Take advantage of the opportunity.

God Bless and stay safe.

edward - technically correct, although in the spirit of Lent, many still continue their Lenten fasts. Otherwise, if you see it as a "break," it can kind of ruin the entire point of Lent. Instead of looking forward to Easter, you are looking forward to Sunday.  Also, when Christ went into the desert, did He get breaks?  I dont know - technically it doesnt count, but I think the Lenten observences should still be observed on Sundays to keep the true spirit of Lent in tact.  Just my .02

God bless
