  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

You know, a long time ago I found some really good Christian sax, but I can't remember what the artist's name was...

I found some music by Derrick "Tony" Lewis on Amazon, but I've never heard his music, so I really don't know what it's like.

I think there are good jazz and sax music out there that is Christian, but it just takes a little digging to find it. ;)

I'm a big Kenny G fan; if I could find somebody with his talents who made Christian music, I'd LOVE it!!!

For classic Jazz I would recomend John Coltrane! If you read the thread on A Love Supreme you will see something about him. I would also suggest two pianists Eric Reed a good Christian man whom I have met, and Cyrus Chestnut who has recorded many spirituals and gospel tunes on various albums. Jazz and Christianity have a long history. Many dixieland groups use gospel hymns as repitiore because the musicians have roots in the church.

Have you heard of Jonathan Butler or Kirk Whalum? I have a CD of Kirk Whalum and it has some guests on it that give you a taste of other Jazz artists. TA TA Vega as well. Look into it. Our Christian bookstore here lets you listen b4 you buy, or online sites usually give you a sneak listen as well.
Hope this helps. I have this CD currently in my car stereo.

Jazz is mostly music anyway I wouldn't put too much stock in "Christian" jazz as opposed to secular. Jazz and Blues are about the music. Sometimes you get some less-than-desireable stuff but it's too few and far between. Just get the good old stuff like Coltrane, Parker, Wes Montgomery, etc...

I heard somewhere that Marcus Miller is a Christian too. Can anyone verify this? I would totally concur with what's already been said about John Coltrane .. "A Love Supreme" is a stunning album and to think it was written to and for God. Beautiful album, full of passion and grace.
