  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Hey there, I just got a new Tattoo of a reall big cross on my outer forarm and wondered what folks at christian forums think about that. If you think its stupid or a sin or cool or aweful. Its gona be there forever now so kinda wanted to see what the christian community would think bout it.

I have wanted some cross tattoos for a long time, and this is my first. I plan on getting another on my calf and one on my neck for kind of a trinity of crosses. I guess sometimes in the circles I hang out its uncommen to be christian and hoping this will help save me time explaining myself, and also its just something that I want people to know my faith is very important to me, and finally they look cool :D

Well, some wear a cross around their neck and some wear it on their sleeve, but the LORD looks at the heart.

Who cares what "the Christian Community" thinks about it? If you want to get the tattoo, get (and keep) the tattoo. This world would be a much better place if people would just follow their bliss and not worry about what other people think about what they do (as long as it's legal and doesn't hurt anyone else). If "they" don't like it... it's their problem, not yours.

Hey, my (Christian) mom finally saw my Wiccan altar last time she was in my apartment... she still loves me!

I say and do whatever I want to, within reason/legality. *I* live my life; other people don't live my life. If I had to consider the effect of my words and actions on other people around me, I'd sit quietly with my hands in my lap the rest of my life, and I'm just NOT that type of gal. Especially judging by the number of CF posts of mine that have been deleted/reported.

I view tattoos like that as a sign that the person is more interested in making sure he LOOKS like a Christian than anything else. Like dressing for success. Or punk. Or whatever scene you happen to be into.

No offense but I was raised at a time when people didn't go out and get tattoos unless they were in the Navy or bikers. Now, even though my daughter and husband both have one, I still see desperation behind the act (wanting to look cool, wanting to look young) and can't help but see "look at me, I'm so Christian!!" when spying a cross or religious symbol. People just seem more insecure these days and need to announce, advertise, etc. whatever it is they want people to think they stand for rather than just standing for it.

But don't worry, my opinion doesn't effect anything and there are lots of people who think they are cool and will affirm you.

I don't see anything wrong with it, but i change my mind too much to get one done. I used to have a few piercings (ear, eyebrow, tongue, nipple... fortunately i don't have a foreskin! :o), but have now taken them all out, so i'm pretty relieved now i never got a tattoo done when i was younger.

I think religious tattoos (well tattoos in general too) are great. Of course, as was stated above you may feel silly if you do change beliefs systems, so make sure that regardless of what faith you practice the tattoo will mean a lot to you...if that makes any sense. I actually plan on getting a few of my own religious tattoos someday. Of course, I'm not part of the "Christian community" so I'm not sure if my post will mean much, but regardless, I thought it nice to share my opinion as well.

I think that, at 28, you are certainly old enough to have thought about what you do and do not want on your body for the rest of your life. If your tattoo (and future tattoo ideas) are meaningful to you, then enjoy them.

However, if it is only important to you that people see that you are a Christian, a tattoo is rather more permanent than a cross necklace.

I think that tattoos are a wonderful way of expressing one's self, and can be very beautiful and meaningful (I have one, and will probably get more eventually). But I feel that people need to spend years (at least a year) trying to figure out if a particular tattoo is really something that they want to live with for the rest of their lives.

I just always think about what it'll look like when I'm 70... Puts me off every time o_0
*laughs* Thinking about how this tattoo will look in fifty years made me decide to get it. It's all black, and so will age to be that amazing blue.

I´m not a great fan of tattoos.
I am not a great fan of wearing symbols of one´s convictions, either. Heck, I am not even a great fan of bumper stickers.
But to each their own.
I also like bumper stickers!

I don´t understand their purpose. When I see a car with a Christian fish or the symbol of a political party or some catchy slogan, I never know what to do with this information. Ok, the guy/girl in the car in front of me votes this or believes this or favours that. So what?

There was one mentioned on FSTDT that said "When the rapture comes, can I have your car?"

I must confess that made me giggle.

There is only one tattoo that can ever be justified, and only one place on the body where it should go.
