  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

New proxy security system.

The residental high school I have moved to has a proxy that blocks any site with such words as sex in their title, and so blocks them if they are part of the title to any of the topics here, but does not block if it is part of the post. Is anyone else familiar with this. It seems to be a weak point in the system.

NO i was not asking. When the com. sci. teacher comes back on mon. she said she will unblock the url for CF, so no sites that start www.christianforums.com/.... will be blocked.

the bad thing is is that it only blocks things that may seem bad, but are not, such as discussions we have here, but not the real bad things, becuase people try to get around them to much.

Yeah, I hate web filters. My mom insisted on having one when I was like 13, and it blocked EVERYTHING. Anything to do with sex, drugs, certain types of music, all of it. I tried to appeal a music site once, saying that it wasn't non-Christian and they said it was blocked because the music was "tasteless" or something to that effect. In other words, they didn't like it so they blocked it :p

This made researching certain topics, for school or otherwise, living hell. Finally my mom got sick of it too and got rid of it.

Technically it is hard to block alot of the porn websites out there. They are getting more creative in their URL titles making it tougher to block by URL strings. I am a security professional for a military installation. We have a proxy that blocks on content and url but still sometimes they get through. We also constantly keep an eye on what people are surfing and block those sites we deem inappropriate. I know schools can't afford services such as these but they try.
