  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I haven't been as serious about it as I should be,either, though we have done some things to get started.
A few years ago I ordered Holly Deyo's "Dare to Prepare." I think it's excellent. She and her husband are evangelical Christians, the tone of the book is great. It's not a "Rambo" style at all. It covers what to do under all emergencies, floods, fires, earthquakes, even nuclear accidents. It covers how to shelter in place or what to do and what to store in your "bugout bag" which everyone should have( We do not, yet) It also covers how to care for your pets, how to cook without electricity, how to store water, whether a freeze dryer is worth it, and so on. I even found the book a bit intimidating but I've taken a lot of advice from that book. It's in it's 4th or 5th edition, now.

Any natural or man made disaster you can think of she covers.
