• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

The first two strike me as rather ordinary (especially the flower). The leaf on the gravel comes close but doesn't quite work for me either -- the background is too busy for the leaf to really stand out, and in the absence of really biting sharpness, everything seems kind of fuzzy.

The last two I like a lot, especially the trees in snow. They're simple, well-composed and convey a mood powerfully.

Thanks for the comment! Interesting - personally i like especially #1 a lot, i even have it framed on my wall. But that may be because i'm mostly a wide-angle guy and rarely use shallow DoF, so for that reason alone it already stands out in my collection. And i like the color ;-)

#2 works better at full resolution, one can easily discern every single mosaic tile then; it's tack sharp even in the corners despite being shot at 11mm (handheld 1/30s, f/4, 320 ISO). To me it's a bit of a showcase shot of my favourite lens (Tokina 11-16mm/2.8), but i can see why it doesn't do anything for you - scaled down and without a strong main subject.

You're right, the leaf shot was a difficult one, i was torn whether or not i should include it at all here. It was shot hand-held at 1/30s, 28mm, f/8 in a acute angle, and i already was at 900 ISO due to trees above and a cloudy sky. A bit more DoF would have been welcome, but without a tripod at hand i couldn't really do it without compromising the ISO or shutter speed too much. In hindsight i probably should have sacrificed a bit more ISO.
The original seems to be sharper though, it seems to have suffered from being scaled down as well apparently - i admit, i didn't really check anymore after uploading them - i should have done this for #2 as well ;-)

Number five (trees in the snow) is superb.

I love a simple landscape photo, the mist in the background adds a little atmosphere too.
Thanks!

That's actually one of my latest, and it's also a bit of a turning point for me. Before, i just shot things that i happened to find. #5 is the first shot that i knew how i wanted it to be, and only with that already in mind i looked for a place and time to take it.
So basically it was my first step from merely grabbing opportunities for taking photos to "actively making a photo happen".

Wow, now i feel flattered! :)

I use dropbox for publishing them (Dropbox - Online backup, file sync, and sharing made easy.)
One installs it to the computer and then one can select a folder which will automatically be synchronized with a web server and any other computer on which one has it installed too - it's very useful for synchronizing files across several computers and also mobile devices. And it's totally free.

If you really wish to make a print and hang it up, here is a full size version. I'd feel honored :)

Awww! Thank you! It's so beautiful! You should really put together an exhibit. Are you located in Germany? I actually have family there now!

I have a few photo's up on my page, but nothing amazing.

Thank you for sharing the image! It's going up on my wall as soon as I have it printed! :)

(That just made my day! I'm having a hard week, but now I'm so excited! I can't wait to see it all printed up!)
