• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hi All,

I have been struggling with OCD regarding my clothing being clean. I am sometimes able to control this but recently I was hit with thoughts like these "what If these clothes aren't clean in Gods eyes". This scrouples thought got me. Are clothes clean or unclean in Gods eyes and is there ever a time when God wants us to clean our clothes? Or is this purely human subjective thoughts?

Thanks

Hi friend! Here is a Scripture verse that might help you-

But the LORD said to Samuel, "Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The LORD does not look at the things man looks at. Man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart." (1 Samuel 16:7 NIV)

My friend, know that OCD will cause us to think alot things that are not true. I too suffer from scrupulosity and I can relate you. It will cause us to think things that are crazy, yet it will feel so real despite God's Word, our final authority being the centerpiece of all truth about everything in this life. Know God loves you, He even sent His One and Only Son, Jesus Christ to die for you on the cross! Know you are loved, don't let OCD fool you friend. Meditate on His Word, which is the truth. Be blessed in Jesus's love Freedom123! :)))

Thanks for the kind words. So how should I respond when wondering if something may not be clean in Gods eyes? Is there even such thing as clean and dirty clothing in Gods eyes? Does God even care when we wash our clothes?

You could do ERP here - make your clothes dirty and then wear them until your anxiety over the matter lessens. Of course God can see that the clothes are dirty, but their dirtiness in no way makes them 'unclean' in a religious sense!

This thought is also one of those whose falsity can be demonstrated by extrapolating their logic to absurdity. If having dirty clothes was wrong, then someone who fell over in a mud puddle would be guilty of mortal sin, or at least be rather 'unclean'! Wearing dirty clothes is no sin - although maybe if someone were too lazy to wash them, that laziness would be wrong.

Clothing is almost nothing; it is the most outward aspect of a human's person. Except for the old symbolic laws of the old testament and the specific regulations for the priests' clothes (which would have become VERY messy from all the blood) the Bible speaks very little about them.

Hello, Jesus had said this to the Pharisee's, who were a group of people very intent on trying to follow the law

Matthew 23:26 "Blind Pharisee! First clean the inside of the cup and dish, and then the outside also will be clean."

They tried very hard but had alot of trouble

Matthew 23:24 "You blind guides! You strain out a gnat but swallow a camel."

Luke 12:23 "Life is more than food, and the body more than clothes."

Life is more imprortant than the clothes, we all get dirty whether it is from working labor outside or from working out in the gym. We clean clothes when they get dirty.

If you would like a few simple guidlines here you go:

1. Try to not have any offensive logos on clothing
2. Make sure your clothes cover you up good enough (etc very broken clothing, if you still want to wear such clothing either repair it or use it for pajamas)
3. Clothes that are clean, clean clothes would probably consist of a few things. No blood, sperm, stains, bad odors, hair follicles, major tearing, offensive logos, properly dressed for the weather in a respectful manner, clothes smell good

Please take note that clothing also depends on the situation, if one is going to perform lots of manual labor, such as house chores or yardwork or any type of construction, volunteer, just anything like this, you might wear something different than going to a formal ball.

You should not worry about what you wear, God understands that people need clothes.

Matthew 6:28 "And why do you worry about clothes? See how the lilies of the field grow. They do not labor or spin."

Matthew 6:29 "Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these."

God knows you need these things, first seek God and just focus on the inside first. Jesus had told us to first clean the inside of the cup then the outside is clean, you can make yourself acceptable to God not by the clothes you wear but by how you clothe your heart and your faith!

Colossians 3:12 "Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience."

To make a summary of all of this,

Hebrews 11:6 "And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him."

Faith is what makes you acceptable to God rather than clothing and what is inside of the heart is more important than how clean the clothes are. It is not what goes into a person that makes them unclean, it is what comes out of that person. One man's faith allows him to eat everything, another only eats vegetables, whatever you do, do so for the LORD.

when you pull your head out of it, you'll realize that God does not care if your clothes are clean or filthy. he wants you to be happy. and you probably won't be happy if you sit in clothes for a month without washing them. you are confusing your thoughts of daily activities for what normal people should and shouldn't do and whether or not God approves. I used to struggle with this and so many other things. message me if you would like to chat. I'm sorry for your struggles.
