  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

There is a new paper that just came out Jan. 26, 2004 looking at the fossils of neandertals and those of other primates, including humans. The paper is free online and it would be a good exercise for everyone to look at just how much detail goes in to analyzing fossils.

Katerina Harvati, Stephen R. Frost, and Kieran P. McNulty
Neanderthal taxonomy reconsidered: Implications of 3D primate models of intra- and interspecific differences PNAS published January 26, 2004http://www.pnas.org/cgi/reprint/0308085100v1Notice how they reach their conclusion that neandertals and sapiens are separate species.

I guess my college has a subscription. Cool! Anyway it sounds interesting, given that I have no knowledge of biological terms. My knowledge in the sciences is mainly physical and chemical.

Heh, the skull picture alone should disprove any concept of neandrethals as old guys with rickets. How many old guys develop elongated skulls of that sort?

Maybe you could furnish your user name and password.

I really don't want to spend the $10 to read the article.
My apologies. I didn't realize it took a subscription. This is something new from PNAS.

Tell you what, Hoagie, PM me your e-mail address and I'll e-mail you the PDF file of the paper.
