Hi all,

I am a new member to the Christain Forums!  ;) Glad to be here too!

Am I the only one who is scared or gets uneasy when seeing the number 6?  I mean I try to avoid even one six in an ID number, or say CD-KEY for an app or game.  And when I see three sixes in say and id or cd-key and not even in order I really freak out. Even recently I got a new host for my websites and the IP address they gave me is like this: 66.246.x.x.  I'm even thinking about canceling the host and find one that does not give me three sixes in the IP address.  Am I just being silly and really not showing my faith like I should.  I mean I definitly have faith (I am a SAVED by Christ Christian) but it still bothers me.  Maybe you all can settle my nerves and help me realize that even with that IP address its nothing -- not to mention hiding from sixes in other things as well.

Well first, welcome to the boards.  You'll find a wealth of knowledge of all different viewpoints here, probably more so than you ever wanted. :D

Let me make a couple of points regarding the use of the number six in the Bible.  When used in a symbolic manner, it is used to signify incompleteness or imperfection.  The number seven is a number used in the Bible to denote completeness and perfection.  Next, and I'll assume you're talking about the passage in Revelations which says, "Let him who has wisdom calculate the number of the beast, it is the number of a man, 666."  You must understand who the intended audience was for that portion of Revelations.  It's not that it's not applicable to us today, but that portion of the letter was written specifically for the purpose of telling the Christians of the first century, and specifically the last part of the sixth decade since the birth of Christ some important information regarding a person who was in power at that time.

All numbers in the Greek and Hebrew languages had letters associated with them.  The number 666 means nothing if deciphered in Greek.  The reference to that number, though given to a predominantly Greek audience, was given to relate to it's Hebrew associations.  The reason was to avoid Roman officials who scanned documents for treasonous statements from understanding because they would have been looking for stuff in Greek.  John could have been reasonably sure that there would be people who would have the wisdom (Let him who has wisdom) to deciper the number referrence.  As a matter of fact, those who knew Hebrew already realized what John was saying.  Anyway, when you match up the applicable Hebrew letters with the number 666 you get Neron Kasar (Nero Ceasar).

So, to sum up, don't be afraid of the number six.  The Bible was merely saying that Nero was a six, or at best, a series of sixes, never a seven.

God bless

Thanks for the welcome!  How do you feel about numbers that have 3 sixes in them, although not right in a row such as 665860901 ?

Again WELCOME

In your words "Just being silly". Don't be watching for that, be watching and be ready for Jesus.
