Alright, I know that it is March 1, but I'd like to talk about resolutions.

As a single person, what are you doing this year to improve yourself? What are your resolutions, and your goals?

Here are some of mine:
a) Spiritual
- learn to pray better and more. I have been improving a little at this since I started praying at work. It is great. Long way to go still.
- Learn to really depend on Jesus for *all* of my needs.
- Learn never to be ashamed of Him. In many ways I am not, and am quite outspoken about my faith. But in certain other ways I am a little embarassed sometimes. That is what I want to be rid of.

b) Physical
- I'm attempting to get my body composition to a certain level. ouch.

c) Intellectual
- I am working on reading the entire New Testament in Greek.
- I am working on finishing up my Latin textbook and moving forward with that.

how about you all? :)

1. I want to lose weight and stick to it for the long term, but in a healthy way, instead of following fad diets that don't last very long.

2. ... be more organized and punctual.

3. ... write a book.

4. ... I just discovered that I really like Taeknowdo. I'd like to get a black belt one day.

5. ... find a new job in teaching.

6. ... recognize God's voice and act on it, rather than go after my own desires. Accept what God has in store for me and to abandon my wishes for His because God knows what's best for me and He knows me better than I know myself.

resolutions.

interesting word. without turning to my dictionary to see what it truly means, i'll pick it apart to find:

re-
solutions.

solutions. fixing problems. solving them.
re-. once again. going back and redoing it.

so we're going back and fixing problems, over and over. but if we have to do it over and over... in trying something new, we're not letting go of the fact that it's failed before. perhaps we should. perhaps we should just let the past be the past, focus on the future and the present, calling our new ways of solving problems, and the commitments that derive from it, solutions.

hm.

what do you think?

 :)

ummm... the etymological roots of a word do not necessarily give an accurate indication of current usage. That's like trying to find out the definition of "butterfly" by analyzing "butter" and "fly" separately... it makes no sense and just doesn't work. *Sometimes* you can do that with words, but don't ever assume. :)

The applicable definition of resolve: To reach a decision or make a determination: resolve on a course of action. (www.dictionary.com)

are you committed to those resolutions you have, or will they just stay resolutions?

there is no difference in my mind. to you there is a semantic difference but to me there is not.

I am days away from completing my latin goal. I am on target for completing my greek goal long before the end of the year. The physical... I am on my way as soon as my back pain problems are solved (almost there). The spiritual ones can't be quantified but are all in progress.
