Hi

This was requested here:
http://www.christianforums.com/t1181506-journals-visitors-list.html

1. Basically, there will be a box at the top of each Journal that lists out all the members who have read the journal. :)

2. Members can click on the "Add Comments" icon at the bottom of a Journal Entry - this will add to the poster's reputation AND the comments will show up in that journal entry. ;) NOTE: If you don't want other members to be able to comment in your Journal, you can disable this feature in your User CP, Options, Privacy. :)

Can we have an option to shut off the journal comments?

Thanks for considering it.

The whole reason a lot of folks keep a thread in the journal forum is so no one can comment on what they say.
This negates that.
Done: Added option in User CP, Options, Privacy, to prevent other members from commenting on your Journal Entries. :)

 Hello!

 What a great compromise -- you can disable comments on the Journal entries or not, and can be granted reputation for them. Even teaching school, I would grant participation points for student Journals, but did not grade them. Fun or positive comments I might make, but serious concerns I addressed face-to-face, one-to-one.

And: :D My first-born got frustrated when another teacher had given him a high grade & I would reread the piece and point out this error & that error the teacher had missed; stated I would have required another draft . . . He finally told me, "Here: read this, say 'Hey, that's great,' give it back, and that's all!" :) cb

:(..why would they leave a blank comment...that kind of upsets me

I used to that all the time - and I never meant any harm, i.e. I repped a person because I either liked, agreed with the entry or I found it encouraging and inspiring - or because I wanted to encourage the journal writer.

That was before the "comment" feature - now with the comment feature and the option to turn it on or off I would know which person doesn't mind getting comments. Before the "comment" feature I would rep without any comment because I didn't know whether the person welcomes a comment or not.

I have got a couple of times reps without comments on some of my journal entries. Some people sent me pms. Either way is fine by me.

Reps are positive. I see reps as the equivalent to: "great", "I like that" etc. etc.

Erwin, you're just gonna love me for this question...

is there a way to exempt journal comment reps from our daily click limit? I just wanted to comment in a journal, but I'm out of reps for the time being, so it didn't even let me leave a comment. Or can we have a way to leave a comment without repping so the 10 click limit won't prevent us from commenting?

(I know, I know, I'm greedy and want to be able to have it all, lol)

Edited to add: exempting journal comments from rep counts would also eliminate the problem of spreading reputation around. I've got someone I'd love to comment on in her journal, but it won't let me until I spread more rep around first.

Not necessarily the correct assumption.
I am opposed to public displays of (rep) comments.

I don't regard the "comment" button as another way to rep someone. I still use the regular rep button to do that.

I do regard the "comment" button as a sign that the journal writer doesn't mind a comment as opposed to those who "want to be left alone" and don't request any comments. If I just want to say "great post" or "take care" etc. etc., I just use the rep button even if I see the comment sign.

For me, what is displayed is a comment, not a rep comment. Sorry if this sounds confusing but I don't know how to put it otherwise. If the journal writer gets my rep points when I make a comment, so be it. If I disagree or don't like at all what is written, I don't comment. I understand that the journal forum is not a debate ground.

If I just want to say something and don't want to rep that person (or I can't rep at the time because I reached my rep limit), I can always pm the person.

Edited because I forgot to mention that I thought the "comment" button was a new feature - just for the journal forum - to provide the possibility to comment on entries (as some had requested). It's not the same as the rep button. It just so happens that each time a person makes a comment, it adds to the reputation.

Mmm... good point... I integrated both systems together... I will look at that possibility.
