  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Hi to all of you! I am new here, and wanted to introduce myself.

My name is Shannon- I'm a wife and a mom. I currently have 3 little nippers- 6,3, &1. I've been blessed to go to daily Mass for the last 4 years, and recently have really felt a call to grow in my knowledge about the Catholic faith.

I really enjoy finding people to help me grow in my faith, and hope that will happen here. I ended up here from the ImdB Passion of the Christ Message board, where my faith has been challenged and grown by leaps and bounds. But it is also difficult to be under attack always. I have enjoyed lurking here and reading all of your posts!

Could somebody explain all this blessings and reputation stuff to me??

In the Sacred Heart of Jesus,
Shannon

Hello, and hope you find your time here enjoyable. Reputation's pretty much "if you really like the post" just click on the name, and go down to add a reputation point. It's a way of saying "Nice post" without actually posting that.

Blessings can be given or acquired, and can be used for extra stuff.

Hey Shannon,

Welcome! It is great to have you here!! And with such a nice Irish name! (My flag says Italy but I have some greed blood in my veins :))

I totally know what you mean about your faith being under attack and growing as a result. It is like a great workout :)

Blessings - Maybe like currency? You get 1 blessing per post, and when you save up enough blessings you can add an avatar (the picture in the upper right of people's posts), you can add a signature, etc.

Reputation - When someone has an amazing post, or something that really hits home, or whatever, if you feel that it merits reputation you can click on the little thumbs up icon in that person's post. Then depending on your own reputation level, theirs will go up x number of points. Same thing goes for you - if someone really likes something you do then they can rep you, and in your User CP you will see who it was, perhaps a comment, and on which post it was for.

I think you will really like this board, it is by far the best Christian forum I've been on.

Yes- I know what you mean about a workout- it can exhaust you at the time, but after the stiffness wears off- you feel energized!

From reading everyone just seemed so greatly to desire each other's spiritual edification- it is truly awesome to see!

Thank you all for the welcome and the guidance!

In The Sacred Heart of Jesus,
SHannon

hi Shannon!

Welcome to OBOB! I found my way here after following some of our Orthodox brethern here . . they got kicked off a board where I learned a lot about the Catholic faith at a very anti-Catholic board - and contrary to the desires of some there, I ended up becoming a Catholic as a result :D - and thenI started defending the faith there . . . when I got kicked off, I followed them here! :)

I will be entering the Church this Easter! :)

It is a great place to be and we are happy to have you with us! :)

Peace in Him!

Well, I'll tell you what . . it was the reasoned, well mannered, clear, intelligent posts of Orthodox and Catholics alike at that boards that shined in the midst of the dross coming from several of the anti-catholic crowd . . there were those who did not agree with Catholicism, though were kind, but there were those who were . . well . . let me say it was not pleasant . . But those simply allowed the Catholic and Orthodox posters to shine even more . .

NEVER, and I repeat, NEVER UNDERESTIMATE the good you do on forums . . I was a lurker at that time . .no one there even knew I was on the radar screen . .but I was watching for months as I made the final leg of my journey home . .

I don't remember if it was Oblio or who right now who posted quite a bit on the Septuigant at the site-that-shall-not-be-name (there are quite a few of us refugees from there here at CF :D), but the posts were so well done, that before I read all of them, I immediately went out and bought me a Catholic bible! :)

I had done a lot of learning already and spent some time at a catholic site but not really in apologetics . . I didn't do that until I was firm in my decision, and then all I had learned I started to use . .

And there is nothing like confronting error to teach you more about your faith . . there were times someone would throw a curve at me and others defending Catholicism and I would think "well, it looks like they got us with that one . . " only to research it further and find out how misleading the post was in its presentation or in its content or both . . And after a while of confronting these apparently non-debatable claims that turned out to be bogus, my confidence grew so that I was absolutely sure that when an unexpected curve is thrown my way, there is most definitely a clear and sane answer to it! :)

The Catholic faith is amazing to me . . simply amazing . .

Peace in Him!

Okay...now I have the image of a salmon called Therese in my head, as if Nemo wasn't enough. *chuckles*

Anyhow... I think you'll find this a nice and welcomming place you both. And if things get very heated, there's always the freezer.

Be loved and blessed

She is a squishy little salmon...I shall call her Squishy and she shall be my squishy!

Praised be to God! That always brings me so much joy to hear!
What an awesome journey!

From your screen name, I gather you are fond of little Therese? May I recommend a book that I just read based on her spirituality- it is called I Believe in Love by Fr.Jean C. J. d'Elbee. It has rocked my world- and now in true Shannon fashion I want everyone in the world to read it!

Thank you, all of you for such a wonderful welcome!

In the Sacred Heart of Jesus,
Shannon
