Hello!! I'm from Michigan. Born and raised in Lansing, moved to Detroit when I got married. My husband serves a church on the border between Detroit and the Grosse Pointes area. So I often tell people I live in the Grosse Pointe area.

I've been a Christian and a Lutheran my whole life. While there were times that I questioned my faith, I never completely strayed. But I have had friends that did, so I know at least what they went through.

Glad to hear you're back in the fold again, and looking forward to "seeing" you around CF (foru.ms).

Good morning!

I'm new here! Anyone from Michigan?

Also, has anyone gone through a conformation class, been baptized as an adult, fallen away (and I mean...REALLY FALLEN AWAY) only to be saved later on? That's my story in a nutshell.
Not from MI but I've been there, done that. Welcome.

Thanks for responding! Actually I'm from Warren so I know the Detroit area! My wife and I have 1 son (2 years old) and we're now in Bay City. I'd love some fellowship, especially someone from Michigan! :)

My son attends the Lutheran school in Warren, called Crown of Life.

We pass by Bay City on our way to MLS.

We have three children, all boys, and are expecting our fourth in February, also a boy. They are 12, 2 and 1. I have a brother who is married, they have twins and are expecting triplets in April. My mom is on grandma cloud 9 these days.

Kids are great, aren't they?

MLS is Michigan Lutheran Seminary. It's one of two prep high schools that the WELS maintains.

My oldest, Jake, has been brought up in the word his entire life. When he was little, I read him bible stories that had pictures, when he got a little older I used Little Visits with God. Every night we said prayers and had devotions, and we went to church almost every Sunday. There was a time that I didn't take him to church when he was younger than two because he was a disruptive child and it made it so that I couldn't even get anything out of the service. Fortunately, we had a radio broadcast as well, so I was able to listen to that with Jake on the Sundays that we missed.

Jake has attended a Lutheran school since kindergarten, and will continue to attend one as long there is one available. He hopes to attend MLS for high school, provided we are still in the area but he is not sure if he wants to be a pastor or not. Hubby encourages him to think about, but he won't be forced into it or anything.

As for our two youngest, they participate in devotions at night, even if by just sitting in their cribs and listening. I read them bible stories like I did with their big brother, and we talk about Jesus a lot. Aaron, who will be two in February (I always jump the gun on ages) likes the story of Noah's Ark the best, because he can make the animal noises. David, who will be one in January, likes to fold his hands when we pray.

We just make sure that God is a part of our daily lives.

do you think its possible to get baptized as a false convert?

Since Baptism is a work of God done to us and for us, and not a work of ours, it is not possible for a "false convert" to be Baptized. God has given you the gift of faith necessary to receive the benefits of Baptism. You may have strayed from that faith after the fact, but the bottom line is God makes no mistakes. You were His child then and continue to be His child now.

Welcome to the board.

Welcome! I'm originally from Western Michigan (grew up in Muskegon), attended CMU, and then moved out to Maryland to work for the government.

And yes, I am one who, like you, fell WAY away from God's will for a long time. But by His grace He drew me back.

Hi and welcome to the boards! I have never been to Michigan, was baptized as an infant - never really completely fell away - just a little during my 'college days'. My husband was born into a Baptist family and had almost completely fallen during his youth and early adulthood. But he he was baptized in the Lutheran faith shortly before we were married, back in 2007.

Wow, I didn't realize how many had their roots here in Michigan. Interesting!

GSJ, welcome to our little corner of the web! Sorry I didn't notice the thread until today.

Could just as easily say "Howdy Neighbor" as we live in Saginaw! Currently attending Gloria Dei (ELS). The church on the corner of Schust and Mackinaw with the ball diamond, if you've been out that way.

I have also fallen. Sadly many times and fallen hard. It teaches us, regardless. I just pray that my hardest lessons are over ;)

you've been baptized then fell away?

Baptized at around 2 (LCMS), confirmed at 14 (LCMS), wandered in the desert for approx. 17 years, realized I had been much more gently broken than I deserved and was thankfully carried back home in penitent fashion by the Holy Spirit to the LCMS.

Sound familiar? :)
