  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I just found your board. I can't promise I'll be here a lot, but you all seem like a very intelligent bunch. My name is Amy. I have been Catholic for almost 4 years - you don't want to know what I was before, suffice it to say Pentecostal Protestant. DH was a seminarian, but changed his vocation to married life. My son and I are really glad too! I converted largely because of reading Scott Hahn's "Rome Sweet Home". I need to read more apologetics and start learning about my faith again. That's where you guys fit in! ;) I'll probably be asking lots of questions! Hope you don't mind.

Glad to meet you! There are indeed some wonderful knowledgeable Catholics here. When I started my journey to the Church almost two years ago, these same ppl helped me immeasurably. And still do. :)

I grew up Methodist and joined the Church this past Easter. My husband was raised Southern Baptist and converted in '93. www.catholic.com is a really good place to look for answers, too.

God bless...

ZooMom your hubby was So. Baptist? Did he take alot of heat from others for converting? BTW, welcome to the Tavern momoftommy. :) I hope you enjoy your stay here. I am myself a Christian who just happens to attend an SBC church, but regard anyone as my brother or sister regardless of protestant or catholic, disagreements between denoms aside. ;) And as such I look to chat here with you in the future. God bless!

He might as well have told them he was becoming a disciple of Charles Manson and would be eating babies for breakfast.

No, they did not take it well at all. When they figured out that he was serious, they hushed it up real quick so the neighbors wouldn't find out. They invite us to church all the time. They practically beg. But none of them showed up for our children's baptism. They'd change the subject if we invited them to OUR church. Now, they act like it didn't happen. Don't ask, don't tell. It's sad, really.

God bless...

momoftommy -

Welcome to our corner of the world. It's always nice to have new faces. We have a great bunch of folks here and as you can see they're not all Catholic.

We have some great conversations and every so often, some drama. Otherwise, pull up a keyboard and ask away. There are no stupid questions.

Welcome again and peace!

Thanks all for the warm welcome!

Sandy, my mom tries to get me to go to her church all the time! She is trying to re-convert me, although not as bad as when I first converted. It is viewed as a kind of embarrassment for my family that I am Catholic. I'm the second convert in 4 or 5 generations - my mom's great aunt is the only other one, and she is thrilled for me. As a little more background, my parents were thrown out of a very radical So.Baptist church for being "too radical" when I was a small child. They think that JC is coming back any day now, and my mom has interlocutions all the time. In fact, I don't know as she's had an original thought in a really long time. JC always tells her everything she's supposed to do, say, watch on TV, eat, etc. - and what everyone around her is supposed to do, say, eat, watch, etc. ;)

Anyway, I'll try to visit as often as I can. You may be hearing some interesting vents from me after a trip down to visit my parents.

Thanks again for the warm welcome!
