  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Hi Akthomas :)

Mike - what led to your departure from the Baptist church?

The fact that I came to believe that Catholicism was true. (That being the case, it probably wouldn't have been a good idea for me to remain Baptist lol :) )

I mean, don't get me wrong; I have nothing against my former Baptist church. It was a great church, where people were on fire for Christ (more so than at most Catholic parishes, it seems). It was there that I began a relationship with Christ (which I am eternally greatful for), where I learned a deep love of Scripture, and started learning how to follow Christ. So don't misunderstand that I left my church because I feel as if it was a bad church. It wasn't.

However, I came to believe that Catholicism was true. That being the case, I had to follow where I believed God was calling me, where I believed the fulness of the truth was.

What have you found within the Catholic church that you were unable to discover in your prior church?

The answers to many questions that my Baptist church couldn't answer.

Basically, the reason I became a Catholic can be summed up the way G.K. Chesterton put it:

"The difficulty of explaining 'why I am a Catholic' is that there are ten thousand reasons all amounting to one reason: that Catholicism is true."

As I have stated on other boards, this is the ONLY reason I find to be Catholic, the fullness of the truth. Now I was raised Catholic so there is NO WAY I can understand how it would be to convert.

Welcome to the board.

Hi Mike! Another convert here! I converted from a pentecostal/charismatic-type protestantism to Catholicism. Like you, I was just drawn in by the truth. My parents can't understand it and think I'm damning myself. I only wish they'd open their hearts to the Truth and recieve Its peace. *sigh* Anyway, welcome aboard! I've enjoyed your responses so far!

Hey Mike,

Welcome aboard! I'm fairly new here myself & all I can say is that there are some very intelligent & informative people that frequent this board. If you have questions or opinions to share regarding the Catholic religion, this is a great place. But remember, don't always believe what you read. Open your heart & your mind, and you just may be enlightened.

To help guide you, you may wanna check out the Prayer of Saint Thomas Aquinas I posted.

Take care & God Bless!
