  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hi everybody. My name is Jason, I'm 21 years old, and I'm a United States Marine stationed at Camp Pendleton, CA. I was recently informed that I will be deploying to Fallujah, Iraq in either late August or early September. I asked to go, I'm not asking anybody's sympathy for this, I still want to go. But my nerves have been pretty wracked ever since the video of Nick Berg's head getting cut off surfaced on the Internet. I have watched the video, and it has definitely put some things into perspective. There is a distinct possibility that I will be involved in combat during my time there, and I ask for your prayers and support. With a little bit of luck, I should return home in March or April of 2005. Oh...and I'm single *wink*

Luponatrix (and anyone else reading this)..please please PLEASE don't ever get tempted to take a peek at that kinda thing ever again..it can only distract, frighten and anger a person~this is why I don't watch the news anymore..well, not the ONLY reason but...
that horrific act should not have been broadcasted at all...
I'm so sorry you saw that though, Jason (and even more sorry that it even happened). You'll be well prayed for here, man! :)

Welcome, fellow Marine. You will be in my prayers and have my support. As White Dove stated, do not let what you've seen distract you from your mission and messing with your mind. Keep your mind focused and your weapon clean.

Hi Jason. All I can say has really been said already, but stay strong and remember that it's God you are serving over there first and foremost, and he is watching over you and all the personnel over in Iraq. I pray that God will shine through you and that those you work with will see your motives for being over there.

Jason, I'm not gonna let my personal politics get involved in this thread. My feelings on the direction this country has been taking dont negate the fact that there are a lot of fine gentlemen and ladies overseas who need all the prayers they can get - God wants all Christians to come together right now. I've been praying for everyone to get out of this safely - I'll add you to my list, no doubt. Jesus will be right beside you there as he is here - try to focus on staying safe, and on following his lead at all times... keep us updated as to how you're doing. I almost enlisted in the marines just out of HS... did a lot of thinking about what would happen if we'd had some sort of conflict while I was enlisted - though I imagine you've done a bit more thinking on the subject than I ever did :p God bless you and yours, and all the innocents you'll be surrounded by, both US troops and Iraqi civilians.

On a side note (not to derail your thread in the least, bro, i was just convicted about this), does anyone else find this statement incendiary or at all rude?

oorah, show haji what a motivated marine and his rifle can do.

Seems to me if it were changed ever so slightly to be a comment about another racial group, one a bit more protected or taboo, that it woulda gotten boo'd right off the board. Just seems unfair to lump an entire people like that under some kind of derogatory nickname.. It's important to remember, whether or not one supports this conflict, that there are an awful lot of innocents on BOTH sides... a gung-ho attitude like that only spreads hate, mistrust, and encourages more bloodshed.

lighten up, I wasnt referring to the entire arab race, only the bad guys and there are plenty of them over there. Its a good thing you didnt join the marines, as its all gung ho:)
In retrospect, haji was not an appropriate term to be used on this board and I apologize to all those offended. It was a bad first impression of myself and hopefully does not stick around :(

Agree totally!!! When i read the news on the papers, it was certainly the most horrific news i've ever read. I can't imagine how people can become so wicked. I really do not understand it. The video was a nono for me. I'll not watch it because it's no point.
