Isn't the Dengar saving Boba stuff apocryphal well after the original trilogy or am I remembering this very poorly?
haha, with the changes made since the new movies, and the backlash, I am not sure anymore.
With the new trilogy wiped all books and comics from the canon are mere myths and legends now.
All books, video games and comics released since episode 7 are official canon.
Yeah, ya gotta love Sebastian Shaw's Anakin Force ghost replaced with a teenage edition, Boba Fett getting an Australian accent, Han shooting second with a bendable rubber neck, a new and horrendous Jabba's palace dance/song, and random stupid droids and banthas in the background LOL
don't forget Han meeting Jabba and stepping on his tail, Vader's "NO!" at the end of ROTJ....
The stepping on the tail thing made me cringe. You're right. But seriously, Boba Fett talking like Crocodile Dundee was not a high point either!
I thought it was funny also how Lucas thought he had to add stuff like Vader arriving in the star destroyer from his shuttle leaving Hoth. LOL. All that extra effort just for that...
I prefer the subtitles on Backstroke of the West, the Chinese bootleg version, don't forget Han meeting Jabba and stepping on his tail, Vader's "NO!" at the end of ROTJ....
blame episode 2 for Australian Boba Fett.
I was not a fan of episode 2 one bit. Still better than the JJ Abrams bantha poodoo, but bad.

I dunno. Abrams hasn't written anything as bad as the sand speech....although emo Luke Skywalker, Leia's trip through space, dead Snoke, Laura Dern's character in general, the fact that TFA was just a cheap knockoff of ANH....
the sand speech, which I've mentioned many times before, is agony to watch. But at least there was 'some' story to Clones that made 'some' sense. These new flicks are devoid of depth, plausibility, character development, interest, or coherence. It's a marathon of nonsense.
The worst thing EVER was Disney purchasing Star Wars. Instead of letting SW be remembered with class and dignity, Americans now have this, "we need to have a Star Wars movie every couple uh years just cuz, uh, well, we need Star Wars, y'all!" They make a crummy movie....throw in a lightsaber and some storm troopers, stick in some CGI alien, have R2 around, and say the name "Skywalker" and the typical American ding-dong is perfectly satisfied. I'm not.
Lucas was doing that long before Disney was on the scene.
I know Lucas did some dumb things prior to the Disney sale, and the man second-guessed himself silly. But there was at least a point to the prequels whether you like them or not. You can argue plot holes and bad acting and banality up the ying-yang, but they did have a point. The Disney stuff, imho, is far, far worse. It is a flat-out rehash on one hand then the next episode, the Last Jedi, was beyond cringe-worthy. It was a marathon of junk. Junk food film-making. No point. No depth. No anything. But I do get your point. The prequels were rough. I just happen to dig Ep3.

On the contrary, I don't think Lucas ever second guessed himself. I think the reason the first trilogy was good was that he had studio executives reining in his bad ideas. I think when he got to make the movies that he wanted and was surrounded by yes-men they actually turned out worse.
I may be in the minority, but I actually liked Episode VII. I think Movies With Mikey's review on youtube expresses a lot of why I liked it. It was similar to Episode IV but differed in enough ways to make it worthwhile on its own. I didn't really like VIII very much however...
I think that just shows that the studios and the technology got in the way of what he wanted on those earlier movies. He made concessions and then when he had clout he undid those concessions. And IV through VI suffered in the special editions because of that. He has always needed a no George instead of a yes George. If you look at how Lucas made comments in interviews through the years about how he wished he had done this and that differently, then you look at how in the late 1990's he grabbed onto CGI like a maniac and tried to re-do everything, I am "forced" to disagree with you (pardon my 2/3 of a pun).
For me Empire Strikes Back was the gold standard for Star Wars.
