New Feature: Hourly Updated News in our New Forums!

I've added a new feature to CF.

I've created a new category called News.

The current News & Current Events forum is now a subforum of this new category, and renamed News Discussions.

I have also made new subforums.

The new setup is like this:

News
Forums for news & current affairs

News Discussion

All Headline News

Ars Technica

BBC

CNET.com

The Register

Wired News

Yahoo!

Basically, every hour, I have programmed our friendly virtual moderator, ChrisBot, to automatically get headlines from various different news services like the BBC or Yahoo! and post the headlines with a short excerpt in the relevant forums as a new thread. A link to the full-text article will be provided too.

Members can reply to these new threads and discuss these news topics easily.

Please remember that ChrisBot will NOT be replying to the replies. He is only going to start these threads.

Enjoy this new free service from CF.

I will add more news services when I have time.

OK, this answers my question then. I thought it was more than a little annoying when I saw a page and a half of ChrisBot threads. I understand now.

He's already got over 5 pages of threads in the BBC forum! (and I'm sure others)

I've removed the Latest News Headlines from the Get New Posts pages.

I see now you have put a great deal of time and thought into the idea. I didn't realize this was your baby. I think eliminating it from the New Posts while keeping it in Daily is a happy medium.

Mmm... they still seem to appear in the Get New link... I will look into this a bit more. But the News threads are really not that frequent or that many in any case.

I'm post-Chrisbot, and I thought I remembered hearing that he used to speak, so I was just checking in case I didn't have the right software to hear him.
I'm thrilled to have him as our Newsbot!

How were you going to find the time to do that? How do you find the time to do any of this great stuff? Have you given up sleeping, or what?
