New Feature: Collapsible Forum Categories!

Okay, I've finally coded it so that each Forum Category can be collapsed individually on the CF Homepage.

So if you are not interested in a certain Forum Category, just click on the "-" sign next to the Forum Category Title, and the whole section underneath that has all the subforums will automatically collapse.

You can collapse the whole "Open to All Members" section, or the "Christians-only" section, or individual forum categories.

Took me a while to figure it out, but it's done!

And I redid the way the forums look when you go into them. Everything should be a lot neater.

When you close up all the forum categories, the homepage does look a lot smaller.

Looking good, Erwin! One thought: Could we have horizontal lines between the subforums? It's a little hard to tell if you're clicking on the correct + sign to the right of a subforum name.

there is one problem with them, however....

i collapsed all the categories i never go into, and happily made my way into reading threads again.... but when i backed out of the forum into the main page again, all the categories were no longer collapsed. i tried it again, and yup, hitting the back button undoes all of it.

i love the idea of collapsable categories.... is there any way to resolve this? or do i have to just consider it not usable for my way of perusing CF (clicking back all the time)???

That's because you backed up instead of clicking on the homepage link. If you just press backspace, your browser has the previous page cached. You need to either refresh the page, or click on the Homepage link (eg. click on the Logo at the top) to return to the homepage each time.

By the way, I reformatted the homepage - things should be a lot clearer now.

In fact, I've made it so that you can collapse all the "BLUE" headings, so that everything is closed up on the homepage.

I'm a little confused. When I have For All Members open, I see all the forums with their subforums listed in two columns beneath them. When I click on the (-) to the right of the forum name, it does not collapse. The only thing that happens is that the (-) disappears, and the forum name shifts to the right slightly. The subforums are still visible, and no (+) appears. Is this how it's supposed to work now?

hmm, they stayed closed for a while, but now, even if i refresh or go direct by link, and then link back to the main page (no back button) everything is open again.

No - what browser are you using? This works best with IE.

Like I said to Lynne, it's your browser cache - you need to not set it so high, or click on refresh to refresh the page.

The other thing is that this system is cookie-based - make sure cookies are enabled. Also, if you log out, your cookies will be deleted, so when you log back in, everything will reset.

i am using IE... and i did refresh but it didnt work anyways!!! but i just did it again, and now it's working. c'est la vie. funny things happen in life. God does have a sense of humour.

Hi Lynne! Hi Erwin!

Well, I'm still having the same problem. I'm going to post a thumbnail of it so you can see what it's doing. The subforums won't collapse. When I click on the (-), it just disappears (note the first two in the picture), and the subforum name shifts slightly to the right.

I have IE6, and I have cookies enabled. Yesterday I deleted my entire cache, thinking maybe that was causing the problem. No luck. I've tried refreshing, and opening a new browser. Nuthin'. It's the same for both the All Members and CO areas. If I can't get it to work, it's not a big deal. I'm just befuddled, that's all.

You are in the "For All Members" subcategory, not the CF Homepage. The collapsible forums are only meant to work on the homepage. Go to the CF Homepage and try there.
