Tis interesting. But then, where was this wife when He died on the cross? Wouldn't Jesus be as concerned about her as much as He was about His momma? Anyhow's interesting.

Mary M. was there; right? :p

But seriously, I'm pretty sure he would have cared about what happened to her, just like he did for his mom.

Things like this turn up fairly often. There are a lot of ancient texts from the Greek-speaking world that paint Jesus in a different light from the Gospels. It's important to remember that, in the early days of Christianity, there was a sort of semi-free flow of ideas in the Roman Empire. A lot of mystery religions emerged at that time, including things like the cult of Isis, that of Thrice-Great Hermes, Mithraism, and the religion of Sol Invictus. Some of them in the east grew out of a syncretism involving Christian thought, and you ended up with Gnostics.

I think it speaks volumes that the Gnostics claimed to have a sort of "secret knowledge" passed down from the Apostles. Much of Gnostic thought essentially admits to not having been taught publicly by the followers of Jesus. Because of the late date that Gnostic writings are agreed to hail from by the majority of historians, and because of how much Greek philosophy they tend to involve (a sharp distinction from the largely Semitic thought process of the writers of the canonical Gospels), it's safe to assume that Gnosticism was just one of the many religions that were able to briefly flourish in a world where people were able to travel widely.

there were many heretical gnostic sects in the early Church
all kinds of crazy theories going around
this would be if someone from modern times wrote "secret facts" about Christopher Columbus

I didn't read the article, is there evidence that its gnostic?
Does it have any gnostic theology within the small fragment?

Christmas comes early with the “Jesus’ wife” story...
Readers of GetReligion are familiar with that mainstream media holiday tradition of releasing news stories that are supposed to shake the foundations of Christianity. Easters over the last few years have explained to all those gullible believers that Jesus walked on an ice floe (not water), that he wasn’t crucified in the manner in which people think...
