New Clothes
Colossians 3:12-13 Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. 13Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.
God wants his people set apart from the world. He wants us clothed with His special clothing. These special clothes fit what the Bible calls the inner man of the heart. These powerful virtues: compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience, are not something we work up in our own power. I think it is important to realize it is His power working through us.
Most church services start with songs of praise and worship. The people are actually clothing themselves with thankfulness. Did you ever think that the words you speak were showing what kind of clothes your inner man has on?
God arrayed the lilies of the field, and he wants to clothe us with His special virtues. Will we decide to try them on?
Forgiveness is a coat that just doesnt fit some people. They dont want to try it on. They think their coat of bitterness is more comfortable. God wants us to have His royal clothes to wear.
It reminds me of a friend of mine that refuses to wear any new clothes. He only wears used clothing. People are always giving him their used clothes. He just loves them and figures he is saving money. Gods clothes are forever new. He has no old clothing. The great thing about them is that when we put them on we become new also.
Will we accept our position as children of God? Will we put on the clothes He wants us to wear?
Matthew 6:28-29 See how the lilies of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. 29Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these.
Thank You Lord for Your care for each of us. Remind each of us of the lilies of the field - how beautifully they are clothed. Help each of us open our hearts and allow You to clothe us with Your new clothes. Thank You that as we allow You to do this we will become more like Christ. In the name of Jesus. Amen.
